My family, including several children, recently visited the Stuhr. We had a wonderful time there! We particularly enjoyed "Railroad Town", which is set up like an actual pioneer town. One can go inside the homes and shops of the era. People, dressed in clothes from the 1880"s, are at each location to explain the home or the shop. They were... More

I travel through Nebraska once a year and make a point to stop in Grand Island every time just to visit the Stuhr Museum. It's authentically historic, the interpretive staff dresses like the 1880s and they know their history. Its a wonderful experience!

This place has it all. A main building full of old west items. A rotunda building with lots of indian artifacts. An entire town for you to see, touch, explore, with character actors that love to answer your questions. This place is huge so plan on staying awhile to also go into home decorated in period fashion. Don't miss this!!!

This is a great place to visit often like we do; and a great place to take friends and families when they come to town! Stuhr has different programs and entertainment that are continually changing as each season changes. They have some programs that happen every year, from special summer classes for children of all ages, special programs like their... More

Stuhr Museum has a wonderful Railroad Town. Each year are family visits Christmas Past and Present. Enjoy the houses that are opened in Railroad Town that are decorated for Christmas in the 1890's. Smell the cooking of pies and soup. The smells of kerosene lamps. Christmas trees decorated in the houses with popcorn and paper chains. Ride in a horse... More

It's a little tired and in need of updating. They are scheduled to be doing that soon, so I would wait until that happens.

The main building in the Stuhr Museum complex was designed by Edward Durrell Stone (the same man who designed the Kennedy Center in DC). So, not surprisingly it seems to reflect the vastness of the West and evokes the stark uncertainty of what it must have been like to travel across the plains when prairie grass stretched as far as... We stopped in early October, after the main attractions are closed. A shame, but not their fault. This place is very large and needs a lot of volunteers to keep it going. We visited the main building and the Fonner exhibit, which were fascinating. The story of the Westward migration and the Great Plains was very new to someone from... More
