Yellowstone Alpen Guides has operated small group and private tours in Yellowstone for 29 years. Our naturalist/guides are experts in all things Yellowstone and are fun travel companions. They will help you experience the extraordinary wonders the Park has to offer during both winter and summer. Small group size guarantees you a personalized touch not found on most tours. A company with experienced long-term employees, we pay close attention to detail and quality and strive to be the premier guiding company in Yellowstone and the surrounding area. Join us as we explore this delicate ecosystem that is home to Old Faithful and two-thirds of the world’s geysers; where grizzly bears, wolves and other abundant wildlife roam freely. We cater to individuals, families with children and groups of all sizes. We have lodging and tour packages available; one call will take care of your Yellowstone vacation planning needs. Winter snowcoach tours operate daily to Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. We offer the option of cross-country skiing or snowshoeing on our trips, and customized charters are also available. We provide shuttle services to guests staying at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, and offer charter service to the North* (Mammoth/Gardiner) and South* (Jackson Hole) gates of the Park. Our snowcoaches are the classic, historical bombardiers, modernized for comfort and low emissions, made for over-snow travel. Summer tours include Lower Loop, Evening Wildlife Safaris, kayak tours and private customized tours to meet your desires. Whether you are a first time Yellowstone visitor or are returning for your next adventure, we can help plan your itinerary. Your trip can include things like wildlife watching, a day hike to a backcountry geyser basin, a photography safari, swimming in a thermally heated river, and seeing the sites that make Yellowstone America’s grandest Park. Alpen Guides believes it is important to protect and preserve our national treasures. We generously donate to the worthy Yellowstone Park Foundation, the West Yellowstone Foundation, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Trout Unlimited, and many other organizations dedicated to protecting the environment.

One other couple and an incredibly knowledgeable guide made for a daylong, reasonably priced and thorough tour of all things Yellowstone in the Lower Loop. From thermal influences to waterfalls to sunlit canyons to historic hotel stops, this was a day to remember (even if we could never absorb and retain all the details). David was superb and accommodating, and... More

We took the Evening Wildlife Tour with Dave. There were three of us and another couple, who were good company. Dave obviously loved the park and his job, and it showed. It was a great way to see the sights without having to drive/navigate, as well as learning things about the park as we went along. It was a long... More

My wife, two grandchildren and I booked two private tours, one for the south loop and one three days later for the north loop of Yellowstone National Park. We had rented a Chevrolet Traverse - one with a third row seat - specifically so that everyone would have a window view (you can choose to use their vehicle or your... More

I took evening wildlife tour today and it was fantastic. Melanie was our guide and she was so friendly and nice! I took buffalo bus tour before and they were great, but this trip was even better. We traveled in a van with 10 people inside. Comparing to bus tour, this tour is more flexible and the guide knows his/her... More

We had a private tour of the south loop with Yellowstone Alpen Guides and John as our guide. We had a great day with John, seeing lots of wildlife and the great views that Yellowstone has to offer. We highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for the personal tour.

We used Alpen Guides for one day of our 2 day trip to Yellowstone. It was money well spent. Our guide John was very knowledgeable, and showed us areas of the park we might have missed otherwise. We were traveling with 2 teenagers and they learned a lot from John. He gave us pointers for our day 2 and we... More

I've done the tour in the summer and the winter with Alpen. The owner happened to be my guide a few times. He is incredible, as are the other guides. They love what they do and enjoy sharing their knowledge and answering questions.

John was the guide for our evening wildlife tour which lasted from 1 until 9 p.m. He kept us entertained the entire time with his knowledge of the park, the animals, the history, and stories about wayward tourists. Yes, we might have seen many of the same animals by driving around on our own; however, he knew great places to... More

This is by far one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. We took a snowcoach tour at the beginning of March, and were blown away by how gorgeous Yellowstone is in winter. Our guide was awesome (Joe). He was laid-back and flexible, very knowledgable about the history of Yellowstone as well as the wildlife, he knew where to look... More
