Amazing variety and sizes, really learned a lot here. Have a whole new appreciation of the ground I now walk on. Bring with some stones you may not know what they are...guarantee you will know by the time you leave. You also can get books on what to look for as you play around in this beautiful state Montana! Amazing,... More

I was a bit of a rock hound when I was in college and this museum has a good collection of minerals. Well worth a few hours of your trip in Butte. More

If you have an hour to spare, this is a very nice small museum. Mostly various minerals are displayed without a lot of information about each, although several displays do have a good bit of information. There is a short film about Butte mining and a small earthquake exhibit. The docent was the best part of our visit, as he... More

Hidden on the campus of Montana M&T this museum has an overwhelming collection of all sorts of minerals from all over the world. Many of them are quite colorful and they come in all shapes and sizes. We did spend quite a while looking at them, but, personally, I felt I could have learned a lot more if they were... More

I normally get bored in museums but go with my wife when needed. I was surprised to find out I actually enjoyed this museum. The mineral samples were amazing. Some very large rocks of all types from all over the world. Many specimins that I was previosly unaware of. More

This museum has mineral specimens found locally and worldwide. They are well categorized and interesting to read about. The worker (volunteer?) there was very knowledgeable about the minerals and happy to answer questions. It also had a nice gift shop. This is a must-see if you are near Butte. More

The museum is a must do while in Butte. I was surprised to find a very nice and large collection! The minerals were neatly displayed and organized with clear tags. There were plenty of local minerals on display as well as some exotic ones from around the world. My favorite was the meteorite collection. I was lucky enough to meet... More

This museum is housed in one quite large room on the Montana Tech campus. It is well marked and easy to find, plus there are helpful locals nearby to help you if you should be unable to find it. The museum has a huge variety of minerals to wonder at . It is not just a garden variety rock collection.... More
