The collection doesn't exhibit a whole lot of pieces which appeal to me, but you'll probably find something to enjoy. Like art museums in many western towns, the YAM seems determined to be not just a 'western' museum, with lots of modern and abstract pieces to balance their fine Will James collection. On the plus side, admission is only $6,... More

This is a modern little art museum in downtown Billings. It's worth the stop, and supports the arts locally. There is a little shop.

I went to the museum to experience JAM at the YAM, and I was severely disappointed. I travel quite frequently, often by myself and art museums are a great place to spend some time and get a feel for the community. If I were to judge Billings on this museum, I would say it's tiny and a bit conceited----and Billings... More

A small scale version of a western modern art museum. Western and farm themes run thruout the museum. There is a youth gallery's which feature young budding artists.

I belong to the Billings Artist Association and so I've been to most of the Artist exhibits the First Friday of 6 months of the year and of all the members of the BAA I visit with agree with me, YAM's social aire and snobbery is not what I enjoy.

The YAM is a great public resource, showcasing both local artists as well as prominent artists from other parts of the country. They always seem to have interesting exhibits on the go. Also, their Cafe on the main floor has wonderful home-cooking offerings for a snack or lunch. Terrific teas & coffees as well, we had hot mulled wine last... More

The Yellowstone Art Museum is an amazing place. We attended the High Plains Book Awards at YAM and that gave us an opportunity to explore the museum and its exhibits. I am so impressed that we have such a great facility and such great art in Billings. YAM is a forgotten gem. We hope to return again soon when we... More

What a treat it was to discover this fine small contemporary art museum in a handsome building in downtown Billings. It provided a welcome respite from the cowboy art so frequently displayed in this corner of the country. We liked it so much that we spent twice as much time here as we had anticipated. Definitely worth a detour for... More
