I went to the museum to experience JAM at the YAM, and I was severely disappointed. I travel quite frequently, often by myself and art museums are a great place to spend some time and get a feel for the community. If I were to judge Billings on this museum, I would say it's tiny and a bit conceited----and Billings... More

I belong to the Billings Artist Association and so I've been to most of the Artist exhibits the First Friday of 6 months of the year and of all the members of the BAA I visit with agree with me, YAM's social aire and snobbery is not what I enjoy.

The YAM is a great public resource, showcasing both local artists as well as prominent artists from other parts of the country. They always seem to have interesting exhibits on the go. Also, their Cafe on the main floor has wonderful home-cooking offerings for a snack or lunch. Terrific teas & coffees as well, we had hot mulled wine last... More

The Yellowstone Art Museum is an amazing place. We attended the High Plains Book Awards at YAM and that gave us an opportunity to explore the museum and its exhibits. I am so impressed that we have such a great facility and such great art in Billings. YAM is a forgotten gem. We hope to return again soon when we... More

What a treat it was to discover this fine small contemporary art museum in a handsome building in downtown Billings. It provided a welcome respite from the cowboy art so frequently displayed in this corner of the country. We liked it so much that we spent twice as much time here as we had anticipated. Definitely worth a detour for... More

We went to the museum in June as we had a spare hour. We were pleased that we did. It is based in the old Jail. The Will James exhibition was on and we had never heard of him but found the exhibits fascinating and went away to find out more about him and search out his books. This is... More

No matter when I go to the YAM the current show is always well done. The work is beautifully displayed and the walk through the building is peaceful. Staff is helpful and let's not forget the cafe Raven. A perfect ending to nice time.
