We visited the Botanical Center to see a holiday display - and really loved everything! The park has many different areas that feature natural attractions year round, and has plans to expand further. You can also visit the nice, historic Gray-Campbell farmstead. The Butterfly House (open only in summer) is somewhat unique, in that it features only butterflies that are... More

There is always something to see or do at the Botanical Gardens in Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial park. Winter is also a great time to see wildlife hanging around Lake Drummond. The Holiday Train Garden exhibit will be back again next November. Unfortunately, the building does not feature Missouri stone. The product is actually a material that was selected as an-environmentally... More

With the exception of the Japanese Stroll Gardens (small entry fee), I would not make a special trip for this park if I was visiting from out of town. With that said, this is an EXCELLENT place to walk (pets allowed), ride a bike, rollerblade, fly a kite, or have a picnic. The trails are paved with one making a... More

Such a beautiful park to walk through. Flowers are so perfect in the spring and summer. Take the trail around the lake.

Right after I moved here from Joplin after the tornado I discovered this park. It is beautifully maintained with almost every type of garden eg English, Rose, Tree, Shrub, etc and even a lovely Japanese garden with fish and turtles. They have something for all ages - including a butterfly house in season, a lake, playground, gardening classes, picnic areas...you... More

My latest trip here was to take photos of a friends' family, and the backdrops here are wonderful. There is an old homestead with buildings that offer a variety of good photo ops. In addition, the park itself is beautiful, and FREE! The Japanese stroll garden is adjacent, but has a small entry fee. It was built with the help... More

Thank you for mentioning that the entry drive is easy to overlook. Look for the tall electronic sign between the Habitat ReStore and the Apartments at Nathanael Greene. Follow a short driveway and over the railroad tracks, look for directional signs to the left and right as you enter the park. If this is your first visit, please follow the... More

Beautiful park, Japanese garden is wonderful. Be sure to check out the annual Butterfly Festival in July. Lots of booths and activities for the kids.

I was drawn to this park by the butterfly house and botanical garden. The butterfly house is small, staffed wholly by helpful volunteers, and has mostly butterflies that can be found naturally in the area. They also have moths, caterpillars, cocoons and chrysalids, plus various other insects that manage to find their way in (and are subsequently helped back out).... More

Great play areas for little ones and a very nice walking track. I have not been through the Japanese garden area, though.
