As an avid traveller, I love finding gems!. Patee House is warm & inviting and allows visitors time & space to learn about US History and local culture in an intimate warm setting. Great displays with just the right amount of info to enjoy/learn or to pique your historian interest to learn more! Don't miss it! Pure Americana.

Plan on spending a few hours !!! So much to see and learn. You can go at your own pace and spend as much time in the areas that interest you. Located right by the Jesse James House

That is, if you can put up with sadness of run-down historic St. Joseph, you will enjoy the Museum very much. The carousel is a darling, exhibits, train, the wing with “streets of old St. Jo” very interesting. But the surrounding area is heartbreaking. We arrived on a Sunday and waited for them to open until noon. The area looked... More

When I first read about Patee House, I imagined it would be a historic residence, maybe 1500 sq ft. Something interesting, but over in 10 minutes and not worth driving to see. But it's a rather large hotel built in 1858, with enough exhibits to take all day, including an 1860 model Baldwin locomotive, tender and boxcar. Lots of Civil... More

I lived in DC and toured all the Smithsonian museums many times. This museum has been called the Smithsonian of the Midwest and I would have to agree! We spent about 3 hours and we could have spent 2 days in this wonderful place. The history is so compelling and the local interest exhibits were outstanding.

We loved this museum and spent several hours. So beautifully done and the staff was wonderful. This is a western museum and full of local history.

The many exhibits and displays give an excellent sense of the history of the area. They contain many interesting artifacts that help on understand what life was like. We especially liked the "What's wrong with this display?" game. The keepers deliberately place some object which is out of place for the exhibit and you have to find it. It was... More

This place will surprise you. The size of the place, the quality of items, quantity of items, and the variety of subjects. They have also attempted to make it interesting for school age children. Plan at least 1-2 hours. This is one of those places where you feel you should go visit again and take more time to let everything... More
