Take a trip back in time...

This was worth the trip to St. Jospeh. An old hotel that has been set up for a museum. Sections showing different scenes from the past with original items. Very interesting.

If you have young children I think they would enjoy riding the nice carousel. Some things take cash so make sure to bring some. In particular the soda and popcorn for a great price you can purchase half way through which is perfect as a little rest stop in the saloon. You can walk up onto the train to see... More

I had been to the museum before, but we were visiting a friend in St Joseph, so I wanted to take my wife to see the exhibits. The museum has a long and colorful history as a hotel during and after the Civil War and when you look at the building you can imagine carriages pulling up and Generals and... More

This was a very interesting museum, my husband was especially impressed. The museum is lodged in an old hotel. The artifacts are displayed in rooms such as a dentist office, jail, pharmacy etc. You can buy a 25 cent guide to find "what doesn't belong" in each room, such as a Hello Kitty toothbrush in the early 20th century dentist... This houses amazing collections of toys, cars, planes, old phones, radios, Main Street America, and so much more! The historical mail railway car, Pony Express And Civil War history with the real life Saloon is fabulous. Highly recommend for everyone !

If you want to learn a bit about what was the GATEWAY TO THE WEST and see cool stuff, go check out this museum. Can stay for 3 hours or 3 days.

We had no idea there was such a jewel of a museum in this area. We were enroute from Council Bluffs, IA to Kansas City, MO and stopped at the Missouri Visitor Center to pick up a brochure about St. Joseph. Our only stop was the Patee Museum and Jesse James House. The museum is two floors filled to overflowing... More

The only museum I stopped at on a long cross country road trip. Glad I did. It captured the ins and outs of a town and culture by pulling you in to a hotel, Pony Express Office, civil war tribunal, outlaws, political hotbed, economic history of the region, barber shop, candy store, train platform and even a carousel. Fascinating one... More

You will quickly become overwhelmed in this museum. It's also the site of the Pony Express Headquarters, and is a five-minute walk uphill from the Pony Express Stable; the Jesse James Home Museum is just thru an exit door and located on the same lot. There is SO much in this museum. What I found confusing is that there is... More

We took friends there, our first visit as well. So much history and lots of exhibits. We need to go back and see what we didn't the first time. Plan to spend several hours. Includes history of pony express riders.
