If you are into museums this one is a must. Great displays of things related to the old west. Has an old steam locomotive on display. The corporate offices of the Pony express were located here. Could visit and enjoy several times.

I was in town on business and had some spare time, so I decided to visit. I'm glad I did - the place is larger than I expected, and you can easily spend hours exploring. The Jesse James house is right out back, so you can visit it too while you're at the Patee House. There's a huge amount of... More

The exhibits are really nice and very interactive. You can see parts of old St. Joseph, to items of the area around as well. This is the office of the pony express, and was important during the civil war. There are things for everyone to see an enjoy.

Built in 1858 as a luxury hotel, Patee House served as the Pony Express headquarters from 1860 to 1861 and during the Civil War, the Union Army occupied the building, using it as their Provost Marshal's office and holding war trials in the ballroom. Adjacent to the home of the infamous outlaw Jesse James whom was shot and killed there... More

It would probably be safe to say that the Patee House is one of the 50 most historic structures in the 25 westernmost states. In its century and a half plus lifetime the building has been everything from a luxury hotel to a sanitarium. It is best known as headquarters of the important Russell, Majors & Waddell freighting company company,... More

There is so much to see here and so little time. You will really need several hours to visit this place, and I still don't know that you could take it all in. Great history of Missouri and Missourians in addition to St. Joseph. The building has a great story also, and don't forget to ride the carousel!

The Pattee House Museum has quite a collection of interesting items, especially for a museum in a small city. It has a surprisingly good collection of early native American indian artifacts.

What a treat! This museum is HUGE! So much great stuff, almost too much. I went room to room, and I know I still missed things. The carousel alone is worth the visit, it was beautiful. A must see if in the area.

There is a very large variety of things to see here. Lots of antiques in their original settings, a full sized carousel, trains, and much much more. You can even visit Jesse James home next door. I probably will not go back again now that I've seen it, but it was an enjoyable and interesting way to spend an afternoon.
