We have been to the Patee House Museum 4-5 times over the past ten years. It is located in a hotel from an era when St Joseph was a much grander city. Several rooms were rearranged in the winter of 2013-14 and it seems thousands of pieces were cleaned as well. This local history museum that has an amazing collection... More

What a wonderful place -- an old hotel converted into a museum! Lovely rooms and lots and lots of different things to see in each room! Our favorite (kids up through teens) is the old fashioned town on the main floor. The original pony express office is there and an 1800's town is set up -- barber shop, sheriff office,... More

Great content, engaging, entertaining, very well done! You'll need to allow at least 2 hours' time to see all there is (plus the Jesse James' house is right out the back - also highly recommended for an interesting piece of Americana!)

Being a history teacher, I have visited many museums in my time. I would rank this one among the best. The sheer amount of antiques makes this collection near priceless. We could have spent days exploring, if time allowed. The wooden portrait gallery was amazing.

There is a plethora of antique items arranged with enough news and stories to keep you busy for a week. A game of "what doesn't belong" helps educate and entertain children. Exhibits include transportation, furnishings, a saloon, train items, tools of all sorts, pioneer and civil war exhibits, and a street of old St. Joseph offices and shops. Great way... More

I tried to see this but wasn't let in because they closed on half an hour. That would have been enough time for me. They shouldn't advertise being open till 4 when they close at 3:30. From what I could see from the front desk the collection may be more for children. The pony express museum was very good, as... More

Interesting stuff for everyone and all ages. Could spend a couple hours there easily. Don't drive by St. Joe without stopping here. Jesse James' house is right behind this museum. Then go to the funeral museum to see the Jesse James' corpse basket from 1882 and the book where they signed, "Mr. Jesse James killed."
