In my view, the minimum time required to do justice to Caño Cristales is 3 nights, 4 days. Booked the trip with Vinatur and everything worked well. The hotel was basic, the meals were okay but what you are there for is the river which did not disappoint. Sure, the plants are mostly red but that does not distract from... More

We spend a long weekend in La Macarena to visit Cano Cristales. Lots of the advice suggests that you need to take a tour from Bogota but in fact it's very simple and easy to book flights independently and organise a guide when you arrive. We use the tourist information office in the tiny airport to book a guide for... More

My husband and I booked the Cano Cristales tour with Mark Genney at The Colombian Way this past August and thought he did an excellent job. We did not have a lot of time because we were squeezing this excursion in to an already packed itinerary, but this river is so beautiful and unique, it was definitely worth the extra... More

I travelled to Caño Cristales on a 4 day trip which I think is the adequate time to be able to see a large part of the river. You can travel direct from Bogota to La Macarena a 50 minute airplane ride. The hotels and the food in La Macarena are basic but this is compensated by the beauty of... More

We were visiting family in Bogota and decided to drive to Villavicencio to catch the flight for La Macarena from there. We were at the airport at 6am (**there are no ATM's anywhere near this airport**), waited for a few hours to get a handwritten paper ticket. This part might be more clear if you book through one of the... More

this is an amazing placê, where some plants get green and red, added to the yellow , brown and black of the rocks, makes it a very special placê, like no other. And resides, at pueblo La Macarena, are very helpful and friendly. It's some 350 family that work to make this an unforgetable experience. Everything is very simple, but... More

if you are an avid photographer this river definitely should be on your bucket list. I took the 2n/3d tour from Bogota which gave me two trips to visit the river. You fly in around noon the first day so you can visit the river in the first day afternoon and the second full day. The colour comes out the... More

The river and its waterfalls left us speachless. The services of Colombia Oculta were unreliable and deeply disappointing. . Arriving, according to their instructions, at gate 9 of Eldorado airport, at 0645, there was no bus and nobody waited for us, as promised. Exactly after one hour of our stress and tension, not knowing what is going to happen with... More

The river is really beautiful, as others commented here, and it is fun to hike and cross the river up to waist if you are fit and love outdoors. As others mentioned, you are lucky if it is sunny and not downpour rain on daytime, otherwise you pay for nothing. The first half day was ok. the second day(full day)... More
