It's like a look inside an 1850s Walmart!

This was a fascinating museum! It's just amazing how much they found and were able to restore! The lab was very interesting to me, how the restorations are done. It's amazing to think about life for people in 1850's heading out to the then wild untamed West!

As others have said, this is about a steamboat that sunk over 100 years ago. But it is much more than that. Its about a team of people rediscovering what was on the boat and bringing it back to life. This one of the only, if not the only, reclaiming process of lost articles from a freshwater sinking. The exacting... More

A boat on the Missouri River sunk over 100 years ago and was dug up and all the contents displayed. It would be like if a small Walmart sunk and was uncovered a century later. The retail goods explain a lot on how a society lived and survived back in their time and place.

This steamboat was lost on the Missouri River and found by a team that had to dig it up. They found all the materials that were heading up river for sale. Everything from jewelry to shoes.

Great for kids who are seeking a "buried treasure" theme. At least that's how they sold it to me when I was in elementary school.

This museum is interesting in every way, the guides are excellent: knowledgeable and personable. I have taken visitors twice and they want to go again every time they come to Kansas City! The history uncovered by the discovery of the Arabia is fascinating, but add to that the story of the discovery itself and the family that worked to find... More

This museum is a must see for all the history buffs and has wonderful displays of insight into the past life on the river when the west was being settled. There is a great instructional and informational movie as well as a guided tour to begin your adventure. The number of items recovered from the sunken riverboat is amazing and... More

Of all the places we have visited on our travels, this is one of our very favorites. The history in this museum is mind blowing as it is in perfect condition and over 150 years old. An amazing find and one I would visit again. Highly recommend this museum.
