Recently, I visited "Rockcliffe Mansion" in Hannibal, MO...what a hidden gem! It is a grand old mansion that remarkably has nearly all the original furnishings from when it was built--this is so rare because usually after the owners pass on, family or the estate sell off the furnishings, etc to sell it to the next owner. The tour was superb.... More

This mansion tour was one of the highlights of my recent trip to Hannibal! The mansion is beautifully preserved, and has a very interesting history! Our tour guide, the owner, was very friendly and EXTREMELY knowledgeable! My friends and I loved how they had student discounts, because as college students, we are all about saving money! This tour was well... More

The first thing we saw when we drove up to the location was what looked like a castle's defensive wall. Once we found an entrance, which we weren't sure we were supposed to be on, we drove up an incline and saw a gorgeous home. It was all very imposing! I've toured many of Louisiana's plantation homes, and I can... More

Angie R, thank you for this interesting and informative five (5) star review. What looked to you to be a "castle's defensive wall" was actually the hand-hewn limestone walls constructed by John J. Cruikshank, Jr., between 1898 and 1900, surrounding his ten (10) acre estate. The entrance gate itself (on Bird Street), and the carriage drive up the rock cliff... More

Wonderful B&B! The Rooms, Service, and the Mansion's Historic Tour were all outstanding. This spot was the highlight of our trip to Missouri!

GailSHahn, thank you so much for your gracious 5 star review helping to maintain Rockcliffe Mansion as a very highly ranked Attraction on TripAdvisor. Indeed, Rockcliffe is, as you say, "so much more than a B&B," as our primary mission is as an historic touring home and museum. The B&B merely allows select guests to stay "a night in the... More

This was by far the most interesting thing in Hannibal to see. It's a wonderful story on the history of this building. The tour guide is one of the owners. Worth the time and bother to visit. Filled with original furnishings - during the summer it's air-conditioned very well. Also a B&B! Do this if nothing else!

We couldn't have said it any better ..... our guided tour is "most interesting" and "a wonderful story on the history of this building". It is also true, as you noted, that Rockcliffe Mansion is filled with original furnishings - and we are very fortunate to be the... More

We were so glad we made time for this, as we were really impressed not only with the house and all the stories behind it, but even more by the extraordinarily articulate and gracious tour guide, Warren. A really first-rate attraction, and well worth the time.

Our family, including 3 children under 12, thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Rockcliffe. The owner was our personal tour, and he clearly loves his home and is passionate about sharing it with the community. Our kids are relatively well behaved and asked a lot of questions, and he was compliant and knew how to keep their attention with a... More

Rockymtnboilerbabe, I am delighted to hear that you and the kids all enjoyed my tour. I really love it when I have a tour group (especially with children and seniors) that are attentive and interested in history, architecture, art, and perhaps an occasional ghost. I could not agree with you more that "the place is amazing", and I do truly... More

On our last day in Hannibal, I couldn't leave without touring this mansion. It had caught my eye from the beginning of our visit. And I'm glad we went. Marqnkev, we are so pleased that you enjoyed Warren's tour. He's up in Hannibal full time now, mainly working on the many ongoing restoration projects underway at the Mansion; he helps out giving tours from time to time when we get really busy, and on weekends. The other tour guides have all noted that he does seem to take his... More
