This is an Unesco heritage site because it is still (almost) in the same condition at the last day of its operation. You should take the guided tour, you get so much good information during the 1-hour tour. The tours are organized every 30 minutes. Almost all of the tours are in Finnish but there is a 10min film before... More

The Verla Mill Museum is situated by the Verlankoski rapids in Valkeala, about 30 kilometers from the city centre of Kouvola. The very first Verla mill was opened in 1872 but it was destroyed in a fire. The present decorative redbrick buildings date from the 1890's. They have been a museum since 1972. The main Verla product was white board... More

The place was packed with senior citizens but still there was room to walk around and take in the unique site. The cafe is quite pricy but the cakes and pastries were quite tasty. On the downside it's some drive to get there from Kouvola but if you know how to navigate the roads it's worth a visit.

If you want to understand how paper is made, this museum is worth a visit. I addition, it is a beautiful sight: its architecture, lakes around it, the little museum shops, local Verla wine to taste in a bred and wine shop, a cafe. Entrance fee to the museum, otherwise free.

It was lucky that a Finnish friend drove me to Repovesi National Park and then here. You must find out the route to go here before driving from Internet and need to remember every turn at each junction. No roadsign "Verla" can be seen until the last junction. A small industrial hertiage showing the process of making paper is worth... More

I went there in January. The up side is that we were the only people there; the down side nothing was open. I hope to visit there in the summer. I'm told that there are demonstrations of how a paper mill was run. It is a very integral part of finish culture.

I was a bit doubtful when my friends suggested to visit Verla board mill. But after visiting that place I'll never forget it and I always remember to suggest it to other people looking for a nice place to visit in Southern Finland. the whole atmosphere is absolutely wonderful and very interesting- I'm not going to tell you more- go...
