Great Sydney Harbour Beach, 100 year old toilets and showers a disgrace !

Spent New Years Day 2016 at Nielsen Park with a family group of 13. I have not been to the park in approximately 40 years, others in our group go there quite frequently so they new to arrive early to get a good position with shade as we had small children and some seniors in our group. One of my favourite spot in Sydney. Large netted swimming area with beautiful view. There is track walk for those who like bit of adventure. Many grassy area to sit back and relax while viewing beautiful scene. Suitable for family with young kids, couple or anyone.

I've been coming here every summer since about 1978 with my parents and continue with my own family having been just yesterday. There is no other inner harbour beach with a shark net, trees for shade within 20m of the waters edge, cafe, showering facilities and beautiful people without being pretentious. Parking can be quite difficult if you arrive any... More

I've been going here since 2008 and my little quiet weekday oasis has become less of a secret these days. The waters at Shark Bay are pristine and never too rough. You can swim "laps" from edge to edge of the netted area or just frolic about if you have young kids. The little cafe is 1 min from the... More

Nielsen Park has a large netted swimming enclosure, so you can swim far out and feel really safe. The nets go all the way down to the sand. Some say they have seen real sea horses feeding underwater on the net. This is a great family friendly beach and park. Big, shady trees for picnics, and from here you can... More

Nielsen Park is one of the best Parks on the Sydney Harbour foreshore. It is sheltered; it has a fantastic pool - netted off in the harbour; it has a great - and very large - picnic park/area. The trees afford lots of shade but there is plenty of open space, also. To top it all off - it has... More

Superb park right on the water with a netted and safe swimming beach. Great little cafe for a late breakfast or lunch with good selection of food and drinks. Lovely walk around the park with stunning views back to the city and harbour. A must visit if you are in Sydney.
