Well First Off We Spent Way Too Much For What We Have Seen. They Close Earlier And They Don't Need To. When I Went In I Was Expecting To See A Plethora Of Animals. Their Were Barely Any At All And It Was Just Boring And Very Disappointing. All We Saw Was Birds And Tigers And For What We Spent... More

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here. I'm really very sorry that we didn't meet your expectations. We hate it when a guest feels that we don't measure up. Please allow me to address a few of your concerns, not to change your mind (although I hope you'll give us another shot), but just by way of explanation. Nearly all of... More

We were there four years ago, the zoo was amazing. We went back this year and were very disappointed. Half the cages were grown up with weeds, the misters did not work, the walk ways were dirty, several cages & areas were empty and we were charged full price. The personnel were friendly.

I have been to the zoo many times over the past few years and I love it. The zoo is kind of in a bad location but the animals are well taking care of and they are doing some renovations to the zoo. The renovations will be over with by the end of July 2014. Great prices on everything. All... More

While I agree with other reviewers that this zoo is in need of updating, it was still worth a visit and is one that young children would enjoy. A number of the animals were out and active during our visit. Highlights for me included the giraffes, chimpanzees, zebras, and the pygmy hippo.

Okay so this zoo isn't in a great area, BUT the animals are well taken care of. There are a few exhibits that need updating for some of the cats as well as orangutans. They need more room. The chimpanzees have a great area and are fun to watch. Give this zoo a try. They care about the animals... Judy... More

The zoo facilities and landscaping left a lot to be desired, but I was excited to see the red panda and the pygmy hippo.

The zoo sticks to high heave. The poor animals looks to be old and malnourished to me. Plus your taking your life into your own hands getting to the Zoo, It is surrounded by a bad neighborhood. This used to be a real nice zoo. Save your money.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here. I'm really very sorry that we didn't meet your expectations. We hate it when a guest feels that we don't measure up. As with any zoo you'll come across your fair share of animal smells- I think the rhino does he best to make sure his scent is around the zoo. :) Secondly, all... More

I've been a Jackson Zoo regular for nearly 50 years and have seen it through ups and downs. The zoo faces problems that are common to older zoos across the US. Funding is always a problem. The surrounding neighborhood has changed and many visitors from the suburbs no longer want to travel in the urban area in which the zoo... More

I felt so bad for the animals. Many were showing signs of distress. Pacing and panting. Some areas had really bad odors. The signage needs updating. A few of the areas did not have any animals in them. The monkeys were very entertaining though. The youngest one was taking a stick and swinging at an older one and playing chase.

I love zoos. I have been to them all over the south with my children. This truly was one of my favorites. The way it is set up, you feel like you are close enough to the animals to touch them. They had animals I had never seen before, like a pack of red wolves. Amazing animals!! They also have... More
