As an Austinite, I thought the Mississippi State Capitol (which I toured inside) and the Governor's Mansion (which I missed the tour of) looked very much like our very nice buildings in Austin (unfortunately along with statues honoring the Confederacy). The capitol is definitely worth a look. Unfortunately, there's not much else to do in downtown Jackson, and it is... More

We went on a Sunday, so all we saw was the outside. The building is currently under renovation, so it was difficult to see everything.

The inside of the capitol was bustling with activity which added to the experience. One of the first capitol that felt like they were doing something! The interior was beautiful with stained glass windows and original paintings. Some windows were boarded up and it looks like they were doing renovations but it didn't take away the history or beauty of... More

We drove in early in the morning on the off chance of being able to get in. There was a lot of scaffolding around the building and some windows were boarded up - not very encouraging, but we found a parking space and walked up to the entrance, through security and straight to visitors desk where 2 ladies welcomed us.... We have toured 20 State Capitols so far and this building is one of the most beautiful. The use of marble in carvings, columns, adorning walls, & other creative ways is stunning. There is marble in various colors and textures. The grand staircase is of marble creating a wavy balustrade and the landing looks out facing beautiful stained glass windows.... More

This was lovely and photo ops abound. Local pottery and friendly advice in the gift shop. Take the stairs all the way to the top for the best view.

We were there on a very quiet day in July, and the capitol employees were very friendly and informative. The architecture is just beautiful with all the stone used throughout the building. A wonderful touch on the fourth floor is the clear tile in the flooring outside the senate and representatives chambers that allows natural light through to the third... More

Was never on our travel agenda but we ended up in downtown Jackson near the Capitol none the less. We were just going to just take a few pictures from the outside but decided to wander inside. From the security guard to the gift shop woman, everyone was just so friendly. We didn't have time for the organized tour so... More

This is a beautiful old State Capitol Building, located in downtown and easily accesssible. The grounds are very well kept and the old trees provide tons of shade. It is so picturesque. Enjoyed time just walking around the entire block.

This building and the supreme court building and others were very historic to me. We did not get to go inside of these buildings but the exterior was nice.
