We did not tour inside, just walked around the grounds to get a closer view. Although the building was undergoing major renovations, we enjoyed the sight. This state capitol had a very deep southern feel reminding us of the Confederate days. The large gold eagle on top of the dome was a unique trademark and it was neat to see... More

There is a huge renovation so we couldn't see much. The marble looks really nice in the parts where it's not fake. You can also sense the great history of Mississippi in all the portraits and the small details.

We were looking for an activity to do while beating the summer heat. We were pleasantly surprised with how much we liked the Capitol. It is easily accessible if you pay a couple of dollars to park on the street. A tour guide walked us around the building; pointing out marble fixtures, portraits, and customs. My teens learned a bit... More

While in the area with my wife and daughter for a friend's wedding we decided to visit the state Capitol. We gave ourselves the Sunday afternoon self-guided tour of the grounds for photos and such. The highlight of our visit was my daughters new tradition...licking the Capitol. Haha. I know it's crazy but this is the second state Capitol that... More

Some capital buildings are better than others. I would put this one somewhere in the middle. What makes the visit to these places frequently is the guide. We had a very personable and knowledgeable one here. Apparently she just works Fridays as she did not want to have to mess with legislatures! I can see that. Another interesting point with... More

Our volunteer guide, Judy, was truly delightful, providing details about the Beaux Arts style architecture (as grand as the Paris Opera!) along with entertaining historical and contemporary anecdotes. Worth the time/effort to visit...and free parking on High Street is a bonus.

Another historical building where you can go in and sit and watch the government work. You sit in the balcony of the congressional floor and can see how laws are voted on and passed.

This capitol building is currently undergoing major renovations but you can still see and appreciate the many beautiful features of this building. We were lucky to tour the building with Pauline who was both very nice and extremely knowledgeable about the building and it's history.

We first stopped by on a Saturday and the building was closed. We returned on Monday and we lucked out with a personal tour with Steve. He really loves the building and is full of information he presents in a very good manner. The building is a beautiful example of Beaux Arts with lots of stained glass and ornamentation. Old...
