I wanted to write this review even though this is from June 2005 before hurricane katrina hit. It was named the best beach is the U.S. on the travel channel back then and it really was. The boat ride was also neat, seeing dolphines. Do pack light cause it was a walk. I would love to go back just to... more

My kids, ages 2 and 7, got bored even though we only did the 9-2 excursion. I guess they just aren't beach goers...I don't know. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful though! more

This was our first trip to Ship Island. It was a great day of sun, sand and history. The National Park Rangers give a very informative tour of Fort Massachusetts. The beach and water were so much cleaner than the Gulfport and Biloxi beaches. Thanks for all the information in the earlier reviews. The boat captain and the Park Rangers... more

There were 4 adults and 6 kids between 3 and 12 in our group. It was our first time to Ship Island and we loved it! Some things to know before you go: DO-Get on the boat early to get a good seat, tickets are on sale 1hr before departure time DO-Take bread to feed the seagulls that chase the... more

I've been going to West Ship Island by the Ship Island Excursion ferry or by private boat for about 10 years. For those looking for a high density, commercialized, restaurants/bars, kind of beach, this is NOT it. This National Park Service island is a place of calm, of Civil War history (for the confederate fort and for the soldiers buried... more

We have been going to Ship Island for over twenty years. We take our own boat and go to the east end of West Ship Island. The island is a little over two miles long. Since Katrina the waters are more beautiful and more clean. It's true the east end of Ship Island has always been a nudists haven. Why... more

Very long walk from the boat dock to the south side of the island. Plan on bringing only the very basic of supplies. Concession stand was very good considering the remoteness of the island. Food and drink prices much more reasonable than I expected. I have read reviews of nudity on one end of the island, but I saw none... more

To get to the island you have to take a ferry which is about an hour 1 way but the boat is comfortable and has a snack bar. We were lucky enough to have dolphins follow us the whole way there and this is fairly common according to the crew. The island itself is very rustic; it is a good... more

My wife and I have been going to Ship Island for over a dozen years. It is a unique place and we love it. What we love most about it is the fact that it is a part of the National Seashore which is Federally owned property. As such it is acceptable to sunbathe nude if you so desire. Since... more
