I have been to Winona several times but never had time to stop at the Marine Art Museum until recently. They'd just received the "Washington Crossing the Delaware" painting which was in the White House. (It is an original; the other one is in New York City.) Because I read a newspaper article about this painting being new to the... More

I live in MN, yet hadn't heard of what this museum had to offer until this year. I visited today; my favorite was the European area, as it has several Impressionist pieces by van Gogh, Signac, Renior, Cezanne, and Monet. We also toured the American areas (2 galleries housing works by Cole, and O'Keeffe), as well as a photography exhibit of... More

Wow! We where so surprised to find such incredible hidden treasure in Winona. This large museum is full of well known artists like Monet, Van Gogh, etc. Also, almost every piece of art has water in it in some form or fashion. It's a must see when visiting Winona or any surrounding towns.

This quiet little museum has some amazing works of art by some great masters, such as Rembrandt, Monet and others. It was a complete surprise that it should be located in a town as small as Winona! The other marine art was fascinating too, and there was lots of information about each painting, making it easy to understand the background... More

This is really a hidden gem. They have an amazing collection at this museum with pieces from Monet, Van Gough, Gaugin, and Picasso to name a few. The currency display was very interesting and they have a very large collection of The Hudson River School. We were there early in the day and that night they unveiled a new addition... More

you really should not miss this opportunity. This is a world class art gallery that just happens to be in a small town thanks to the beneficence of a really wealthy local guy. It has works by some local artists, but more importantly to you, it has treasures by masters you usually only find in major metropolitan areas.

From it's seaside coastal exterior to an interior that could rival the great metropolitan museums, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum could put Winona,MN on the map all on its own.

While the word awesome may be overused in today's conversations, there are times when one finds a place for which the word must have been coined. One of those places is the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. Its art collection includes an impressive mix of European art, a number of which are by impressionist artists like Monet and Renoir. What is...
