Pi just spent a delightful 5 days on the North Shore. We stayed at Solbakken Resort and had a cabin right not the lake. Temperance River, one of the many near by parks, was lots of fun. We started with a hike up Carlton Peak to enjoy the panoramic view of the shore. Then we walked the trail along the... More

Park in the lot on the highway and hike down to the beach. The water at the mouth of the river into Superior is warm enough for swimming. Check the depth; we found lots of areas for brave kids to jump from the rocks into the water - AWAY FROM THE BRIDGE AND FALLS. This is by the rocky shore... More

You don't have to venture far off the highway to view some true North Shore scenery and beauty here. Don't be fooled and go up to the Park entrance, as that is where the camp ground is, the best sights are right off the turnouts on 61 which don't require a state park pass. Head towards lake superior fro some... More

Rode our bikes on a nice trail from blue fin resort. Waterfalls are beautiful and powerful. No guard rails here. Walk up a ways and it flattens out so you can get your feet wet. We were overly ambitious and hiked up to Carlton peak. Took us 4+ hours round trip.

Absolutely beautiful for hiking an scenery. Great place to walk with a dog. The scenery invited one to simply pause in places to meditate and soak up the views. I enjoyed the wildflowers along the way.

It wasn't in our plan to stop and see the Temperance River on our recent travel up the North Shore. On our way to Grand Marais, we saw a bunch of cars pulled over on the side of Hwy. 61 near Schroeder. The green sign said, "Temperance River". On our way back from Grand Marais, I told my husband to... More

First stop on site of the lake and see power of water coming to the lake, then walk short walk (maybe a mile) to see all the cascades and small pools and falls in small gorges. Very beautiful.

Temperance River State Park is yet another in a long line of beautiful parks along Minnesota's North Shore. This park is great for beginning hikers, as it's easy to get to. As you travel along highway 61, you can park just off of it and hike up towards the falls. It's a short round trip, and by going on the... More

This park is amazing!! With several waterfalls within the canyon and tremendous views, this park is one of the best on the North Shore. Once at the falls at the end of the canyon, keep going upstream. Another small canyon comes into view a ways up, with more small falls. Beautiful!!!

We spent a few hours hiking around the Temperance River, the gorges, Falls, and State Park. We hiked back to the hidden falls and it was amazing to be so secluded in Nature. We spent some time just sitting and enjoying the rushing water and marveling at it's beauty. Definitely time well spent!
