We stopped at the park on our way up to Grand Marais. We first checked out the east side of the park (on the lake) and had a picnic lunch right near the beach. Temperance River is said to be the only river that flows into Superior without a sandbar. It was a great sight to see. There were some... More

We stopped at Temperance River State Park on the way up Highway 61 from Duluth to Grand Portage, MN. The State Park is on either side of the road in Schroeder, which is about 63 miles (1.15 hours) South of Grand Portage, or about 80 miles (1.5 hours from Duluth). There was adequate parking on either side of the road... More

Beautiful hike, the river was running wild. It was about 8 miles along the river. Bring water and bug spray and wear hiking boots and you will be fine.

We love the camping, Photo opportunities, Hiking and bird watching. We ad a great visit this weekend. We normally visit in the morning, this time we went in the evening and some of the locations had the sun on better side.

Recently stayed at Temperance River State Park (again). It's a great 'centrally located' spot along the north shore of MN, which makes getting to other sites a breeze. Just north of Shroeder, MN there are two primary campgrounds - the upper and lower sections. This trip we stayed in the lower campground and were very, very pleased with site 45.... More

The force of the water is evident, having carved narrow chutes through the lava rock. Cascades River has much more volume and is a better hike, but if you drive by, this is definitely worth pulling over and taking the steps down to look back up at the bridge.

Glad we stopped, but a bit disappointing after visiting Jay Cooke. One waterfall that flows into Lake Superior. The Superior Hiking trail passes through the park.

Park at the road for no fee access. Pay a fee and get lakeside camping and picnicking. The falls have cut deep into the rock. Go to the top of the many falls to see the rock strewn river. 1-2 hours is enough but more is required to see it all. The trails have some strenuous steps.

Fourteen waterfalls within 1 mile of the mouth into Lake Superior. Called Temperance as having the only river entering Lake Superior without a sand bar. Great camping on the lake shore. Halfway between Duluth and the Canadian Border. Close to the Gunflint Trail (Grand Marais entrance which has access to the Boundary Waters Canoe area).

There is so much beauty to the area. There is a place where you can jump off the rocks into the river and be washed out into the lake. The preteens, teens and as well as many adults were really enjoying the adventure of the jump.
