We saw an article in our newspaper listing the top 10 scenic hikes in the US. Carlton Peak was listed as one of them. We did the 3.4 mile hike from Britton trailhead parking lot on Cty Rd 2. Our hotel staff said he has done both trails several times and the hike from Temperance State Park was the prettier... More

Beautiful skatepark to visit. We went there to hike along the river and see all the falls and gorges. It wasn't a difficult hike, and was absolutely beautiful. The scenery is absolutely amazing.

The park is right off the highway. In 2014 I explored the lakeshore. This month I hiked inland to explore the gorge. It was a perfect day to do so. The hiking guide speaks about 7 overlooks and (dangerous) precipes. A lesson on geology (glacial potholes, erosion, former dried up waterfalls). The hidden falls are intriguing (just don't peer too... More

Full of beauty, lots of waterfalls and swimming holes. Hiking trails are nice. Go on both sides of bridge and you won't be sorry. Bathrooms are really clean

We camped in the lower camp ground at site 57, it is a small but private site location. If you choose the sites in the 40's most of them are off of Lake Superior, the 50's are mostly on the back side of them and closer to the freeway, you cannot see the freeway but you can definitely hear it... The Temperance River State Park is located about a mile north of Schroeder, Minnesota and about 28 miles south of Grand Marais. Schroeder is about 80 miles north of Duluth and about 230 miles north of Minneapolis. This Park is one of the many great State Parks on Minnesota’s North Shore. I visited this Park on a Friday morning in... More

Our fifth state park in two days, we didn't spend a lot of time here and are sure there is a lot more to see. We hiked the Temperance River Gorge Trail and enjoyed a pit of rock climbing. Good for a short visit if you have an hour or two to burn.

This park offers a nice hike with some interesting water falls. You can also jump onto the Superior Hiking Trail from the park's trails and hike up to Carlton Peak which offers great views and is actually now part of the park. This time we just hiked the river with a series of falls and very deep cuts through the... More

Minnesota refers to its North Shore state parks as the system's "Crown Jewels" and with good reason. They are absolutely spectacular. Each one is unique and must be experienced on its own. With that said, I have to admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for Temperance River, almost a hidden beauty, and misnamed for sure, because... More

This is simply our favorite place to camp on the north shore. I can't recall how many times I've been there. For camping, the upper loop basically has no bad sites. Some electric, some not. The lower campground is also nice, but some sites are very close to Hwy 61 so more noisy. There are also some cart in sites.... More
