Living in Owatonna, this is a place that we have visited at different times of the year. Gus's Gas Station takes you back in time with all the old displays of candy and oil and such. We just visited the Dunnell House with Christmas decorations. Every room is decorated by a group or business in town, highlighting the decorator. The... More

This is a great place to come and show the younger generation how things were 100 years ago. You can spend a lot of time here looking at how things use to be.

Attended a wedding here near the big house in the gazebo. It was gorgeous! I don't know if the historical society staff had anything to do with the preperations, but everything was lovely. Clean, well spaced, and very very pretty!

Well organized village and accumulation of preserved and restored historical buildings, log cabins, equipment, and artifacts of south central Minnesota. Complemented by a modern building where various displays focusing on select segments of interest that are changed on a timely (quarterly?) basis. A true slice of rural, small-town, and early industrial America. Great information for youth and a walk down... More

Christmas in the Village is a wonderful event. If you are in the area in December, it is a great way to spend the evening. Another good time to visit is during the Steele County Fair in August.

The town of Owatonna, prides itself on this bit of Americanna. There is an old school house, church, cabins, home, livery stable...and everything else you would fine in a historic village!

This is a very cool place, especially during the Steele County Free Fair (the largest - by far - in Minnesota). Several older, restored buildings in the setting of a small village. Five starts for sure.

Have visited this place since I was a kid, but never taken the official tour until recently. It was amazing. Our tour guide was a wealth of information. My partner and I LOVE history and it was a really nice way to spend the afternoon. It's not an expensive tour, if you have an hour or two to spend in... More
