We have gone here in the spring, the summer and the fall. Guess we better check it out in the winter. They offer a lot of ranger led programs and have some beautiful hiking. It is a rather large state park. We have had some luck fishing here too. Kids love catching frogs in the pond.

We decided to try something closer to home for the weekend. It is a little over an hour from home. We loved the private camping spots and the clean facilities.

didn't realize this park was as big as it was. there are several areas for different activities. the highlight for me was climbing the old fire tower and looking out over a vast area (including the lake) of forest. excellent views !! we did this for fall colors and couldn't have timed it better.

We were hoping to be able to bike around some of the trails -- we even mentioned to the gal at the front gate that that was our plan and she didn't say anything. But we discovered that the trails (at least in the area we were) were dirt and unpaved and would not go well for biking. Other than... More

This is a scenic park with many easy to hike trails. This is very sutable for families with children. There is a tower you can climb that goes up 100 feet. The stairway that you climb has open steps so if you are afraid of heights this is not for you. If you make the climb you get above the... More

An early sunny autumn day was spent on trails at this park, primarily a hardwood forested area, but historically an area covered with large pines. History lessons abound in accessable areas documenting Native American, pioneer farming and the lumbering industry. Trails for hiking and winter cross country skiing, horseback riding are well marked and access for river canoeing/ kayaking is... More

I have camped here several times all within the horse camping area. It is spaced out well with plenty of room between sites. The last time I was here was in July and the flies were very bad so we did not ride the horses for this trip. I would recommend visiting in the fall for great trail riding.

So many trails and beautiful park! Too many trails for one day. We use it in the fall when cool out with our 2 dogs.

We were in the Onamia area for a week and decided to do a drive through of this park. If you buy a day pass to one state park you can use it at others on the same day. I have to say there wasn't much that caught our attention. There is an observation tower but parking isn't close by... More

So the other reviews are correct, this place is one big swampy marsh and the bugs are bad in the summer. And it is a huge park, has 3 different campgrounds, but it's gorgeous and awesome on certain aspects. 1st of all, we ended up at Group campsite 3 and it was absolutely gorgeous right on the banks (marsh) of...
