We went to this brewery and musuem. It was very imformative and the grounds was beautiful. We then sampled some of the beer that was still being made there after 150 years. This is a must see.

This story begins with the historic "Grain Belt" beer billboard that towers over a Minneapolis thoroughfare as it crosses the Mississippi. My friend explained that Grain Belt used to be the Twin Cities local "working man's" beer but the company was now out of business. The sign was "historical," however, and it would probably stay up forever. Fast forward a... More

Spent a couple of hours at the August Schell Brewery in New Ulm, MN. What a nice location. It was right next to the Brewery and the gardens around the Schell home. There were about 75 people there sitting at tables in the shade drinking beer, draft root beer, eating bread and cheese, and listening to an old polka band... More

this was a cool tour. we got to see them bottle the beer and go to the tap room and if you drink you get sample some the different beers. if you don't drink or you have underage people they do have root beer that they also make and bottle there.

We didn't go inside, but the small gardens outside the house are open even after the building is closed and are just beautiful. Romantic nooks everywhere, tinkling water features and wonderfully accented flower borders make this place a huge gem! Keep an eye out for the peacocks eating out of the large flower pots.

We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon on our way through town. Very pretty place with a great history and beautiful old buildings. The tour cost $3 and a very informed guide led us throughout the grounds. There was even a peacock wandering around! The tour was only about a 1/2 hour and the beer tasting was another 1/2 hour.... For only $3 you can get a brief tour of the brewery, the grounds and enjoy a beer tasting which involves 6 tastings and then a 12-ounce beer of your choice while enjoying your surroundings. We were there on Saturday, June 28th. The tour was shorter than normal as it began pouring rain while in the old brewery, so we... More

We visited on Sunday for their Music in the Park event which takes place every Sunday during the summer. The tour was short until we got to the tasting room. They give you a generous sampling of their beers which is well worth the price of the tour. The event in the park was very nice with food, soft drink... More

Schell's relaxing small brewery tour and guides had a more personal touch than the mega-capacity, assembly-line tours I've taken at huge breweries run by Budweiser, Coors, Miller. You can walk around their wooded grounds and lovely flower gardens that surround August Schell's 1880s mansion. A pair of peacocks can be seen strolling the grounds and roosting on roofs. A ticket... Schells brewery never let's me down. From the beautiful grounds, to the wonderful festivals, to the tasting room, and brewery tour, to the peacocks who roam around freely on the grounds. The people working there are so helpful and hospitable and love to share their passion for great German beer with every guest. I definitely recommend making it a stop... More
