My husband and I finally had a chance to see and hear a Minnesota Orchestra concert, since Orchestra Hall recently re-opened after their remodeling project. We took in a special Strauss concert on October 17th, which had musicians in chamber groups to the full orchestra. As usual, the music was presented with much flair and expertise. We believe that Osmo... More

The orchsetra was great.Staff was more than helpful, audience was respectful (but need more young people representing. The hall has great acoustics that house these fine musicians. Nice way to spend a nice warm October evening, Dinner then listing to great music.

As the "Doc" mentioned below has opined, the Minnesota Orchestra is the best in the world. As another visiting artist said, you can go up and down the entire orchestra, and every single player sounds great. The new hall's great acoustics house these splendid musicians. Plus, they are a fascinating group of people as well. Check out some of the... More

We were present for Osmo Vänskä's return to the podium and it was a breathtaking experience. Staff was more than helpful, audience was respectful (but we need more young people representing the concertgoers!) and the sound was to die for. If you can make it to ANY performance here, jump at the chance!

In April 2014 Doc Severinsen conducting a pop concert with the Minnesota Orchestra and his Big Band melted away bad feelings surrounding the musician lock out. He emphasized the importance of moving forward again as a team. The expanded lobby and renovated auditorium are invitingly beautiful, a match to Doc Severinsen's indefatigable spirit in uniting, uplifting, and encouraging the audience,... More

Throwing blame around doesn't solve the problem, because musicians that do not play do not an orchestra make. They have now cancelled their Carnegie appearance and lost their world-class conductor. They still have no settlement to the union dispute and no apparent end to it. If and when it DOES end it will be ages before this is a world-class... More

The musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra have been locked out for nearly a year. (They never were on strike.) For some reason, this board and management has shifted their stewardship from sustaining the actual orchestra...to sustaining the glitzy, renovated Orchestra Hall. They complained that the musicians' salaries comprise a huge chunk of the budget, and regard these fine artists (some... More

The Minnesota Symphony up until the end of the 2011-12 season a world class orchestra. It is about 50 years old. The Music Director, Vanska, has an international reputation for excellence. The Orchestra has not played a not this season because it has been locked out by the Board. Approximately 20 key players have already left for greener fields......the issue... More

An orchestra represents the best of a city. Sports teams can go through years of doldrums but a well supported orchestra can deliver excellence in a way that makes a difference in your life. Right now the Minnesota Orchestra is going through a labor dispute AND a hall upgrade. When they return, and they certainly will, Minneapolis will once again... More

Hopefully the strike will be settled soon. Check before you go. Building is undergoing some major construction. Check out Peavy Plaza but watch out for dealers and drunks.
