This beautiful cemetery is absolutely beautiful. It overlooks Lake Calhoun, as well as some small ponds. The landscaping is relaxing, and the twisting roads are interesting. There is an interactive computer where one can look up Minneapolis stalwarts such as the Lorings, Skogmos, and other influential families. The old monuments are stunning, as are the several mausoleums. Current graves are... More

I was just recently here. It is a beautiful cemetery, rolling hills, large trees, monuments, beautiful chapel. The staff was also very courteous and helpful. I would have liked more time just to walk around. They have a pamphlet that gives you the location of the graves of some notable people if you have time to take advantage of it.

What do you say about a cemetery. Itt is beautiful and has a most wonderful chapel. There is so much history in this cemetary, if you get a chance take a tour.

I recently had the privilege of leading a memorial service in the Chapel at Lakewood Cemetery. Everything about the setting breathed reverence and respect, for both the deceased and for the living.

As a Civil War junkie I visit a lot of cemeteries when away on work. Lakewood is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I have ever been to.

As the title suggests, make sure you stop by the Info Kiosk at the side of the Admin Building upon your arrival. Great information about the cemetery, including a guide map with key highlights! Lots of interesting history told through the graves and memorials throughout the cemetery, including Hubert Humphrey's Grave, Minneapolis Fire Relief Association Monument, Civil War Monument, and... What a gorgeous final resting place for the elite of Minnesota. The headstones and monuments were fantastic. HHH gravesite was very understated compared to some of the other notables that are buried there. The grounds are immaculate.

Before you go, check out this lovely, architecturally significant and beautiful site. There are few cemeteries that I recommend for a wander....the First Cemetery of Athens is the other. Don't miss the chapel, a miniature of Agia Sophia from Constantinople cum Istanbul!
