If you like walking through cemetaries and seeing the history this is a great one to do it at. Along with a lot of Minneapolis history there is also the beautiful view and landscaping that makes it enjoyable. Looking up some of the cemetary's history also makes it even more interesting. Be a little careful, the grounds are so big... More

Huge, beautifully landscaped open space! The historic chapel is designated a Nat'l Hisroic site...Byzantine architecture, domed ceiling, rich mozaics cover interior. Stained glass window allow light to set nearly a mystical feel. All this, located near the chain of intercity lakes, with spectacular views, and close to the hip, trendy 'Uptown" neighborhood. A great respite in warm weahter...for a stroll... More

A pretty cemetery. Grounds are especially well-maintained and it contains the gravesites of many famous Minnesotans. The main office provides a map of the most famous people who are buried there.

If you are trying to deconstruct Minneapolis family relationships, come here to find who married who, way back when. There are mini-temples, gothic edifices, Greek columns and Victorian angels dotting the landscape. A new mausoleum is a stunner. A very well run place with something for everyone. HHH is planted here.

Winding roads, old growth trees. Nice Minneapolis founding families history. Mosaic chapel is gorgeous and unique. Memorial day ceremonies are appropriate for families with children.

After visiting a resting site I drove around the grounds for a bit. The history and beauty of this cemetary is remarkable.

A bit weird, perhaps, to think about just touring a cemetary, but Lakewood is one of THE loveliest cemetaries in America. For awhile in the '80s I think the cemetary was suggesting it as a picnic location. While I don't know that I'd do that, it is bucolic.

Many well-known Minnesotans buried here including Hubert H. Humphrey and Paul Wellstone. No tacky lawn ornaments, balloons, and other junk allowed on graves. Beautiful, peaceful setting.

Here are interred famous people, the city's most prominent, as well as revolutionary, civil war, and later wars, fire and police, and even the circus. Ordinary people of all nationalities. Huge monuments, mausoleums and angels, as well as several chapels. It is a currently active cemetery. There is a lot of bird and animal life to be photographed as well
