Lakewood cemetery, located on the east side of Lake Calhoun, is interesting since many famous people are buried there such as Hubert Humphrey, vice-president of the USA, and Paul Wellstone, beloved senator for MN. The real hidden gem, however, is the chapel. The overall design is based on the shape of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey. Six Italian mosaic... More

Lakewood Cemetery is located on the eastern shores of Lake Calhoun, directly south of the Uptown area of Minneapolis. I went on the self-guided walking tour with my wife on a Saturday morning and enjoyed strolling through this large cemetery. The day before we were walking around Lake Calhoun for the hundredth time and decided to do something different the... More

This is the most beautiful cemetery in the twin cities period. States founding families buried here along with Sen Humphrey and assorted Governors civil war heroes and other politicos. We have family buried there since 1865 and my family will be interns there as well so it must be good

This is a lovely place to spend an afternoon. Lots of historic figure buried here (you can pick them out by their elaborate monuments), and many unique areas within the cemetery. My grandmother is buried here, along with some other relatives, and if you go to the main building and ask, they will look up specific plots for you and... More

I am not a fan of cemeteries but this cemetery is considered one of the prettiest in the area. It has some beautiful chapels and the architecture is quite eye-catchy.

It may seem a little morbid to some, but i love visiting cemetery's. And this one blew me away. It is huge, and filled with beautiful head stones which to be honest are like little pieces of art. It's well maintained and looked after, and if you're like me and like visiting cemetery's, then please go and visit this one!

My husband and I attended their annual Memorial Day festivities this year. The service was well planned, and included tributes to Abraham Lincoln, veterans and those who gave their lives in service to our country. It was patriotic, but not over the top. The musical selections were well chosen, and were performed by the MPD Police Band and a local... More

This cemetery is located by some of Minneapolis' favorite walking lakes. It is large with lots of old gravestones to look at. There is a nice road to drive on or park and walk along in the serene atmosphere. There are also ponds which is always a plus.

If you like walking through cemetaries and seeing the history this is a great one to do it at. Along with a lot of Minneapolis history there is also the beautiful view and landscaping that makes it enjoyable. Looking up some of the cemetary's history also makes it even more interesting. Be a little careful, the grounds are so big... More
