The Minneapolis Skyway System is probably a mode of transportation that is singularly unique to Minneapolis. The Skyway is a system of interconnected, enclosed walkway bridges above street level, that allow passage between adjacent buildings in downtown Minneapolis. The Skyways are in all likelihood almost a necessity during the Minnesota winters, but during in less extreme weather, they are simply... More

Thank God!!! For the skyways. Walking around downtown was easier and did not have to get out other than at the entry and exit points. Amazing! Other cities need to add this to their Downtown buildings. The only bad part there are other buildings that have to be connected.

The Skyway is a convenient way to navigate the city during harsh weather conditions. I used it on a rainy day to walk from my hotel to Nicolette mall area and find it quite interesting. The journey took me about 20 minutes through several buildings, mostly businesses, with some restaurants and apartments on the way. It was around 6 PM... More

Many people are afraid of Minnesota's winters, not to worry, you can get around the city without going outside and it's really pretty easy to navigate!

This was a very extensive skyway with lots of shops (including Macy's) and restaurants. It connected most of the downtown buildings for many blocks. The weather was pleasant when I was in town but I think this would be a great way to get around if it was really cold or hot and humid.

I dont know what to write here, you should surf the skyway yourself to know how great the system is, it cant be captured in words. Its the world largest skyway system, you litteraly can go anywhere in downtown without stepping outdoor, the whole minneapolis downtown is connected to it and it looks like you are walking a huge mall.... Used it on a rainy day to get from restaurant to hotel. Luckily someone who worked for the city helped me navigate to my hotel but even he had to call on his radio many times to make sure we were heading in the right direction. There we not enough signs and was easy to get lost so its not... More

For those who live, work, and visit downtown, it's the only way to get around, especially in Winter and the dog days of summer. No waiting to cross streets, and one can cover most of the length and breadth of downtown. These days you'll find that at certain hours, the only people on the street are smokers, which is another... Skyway moves you around the center of town more to the east side. Lots of walkways to get wherever you need

I, too, got lost along the way but I liked the concept of walking around without being outside. I'm sure it's a huge asset to those who live/work in the city during the cold and rainy months. Interesting way to spend some time.
