The Minneapolis Skyway System is quite remarkable. Once I took the time to figure it out, I realized I could navigate all of downtown Minneapolis without ever going outside! For a city that spends much of the time in "winter mode," this is quite ingenious. Many of the business buildings along the routes have made their second floors mini-malls, with... More

The weather is so different here. The skywalks allow everyone the ability to get around without having to deal with the outside influences. More cities should invest.

My grandson, who recently spent 5 months in Prague at University, wanted to see downtown Minneapolis having become a city lover. We took the tram from the Mall of America into the city to avoid having to cope with the traffic. You can park at the Mall for free and it takes about 40 minutes to get to Nicolette Mall... More

I love Mnneapolis skywalk, it is long and across many building in the city center, brilliant idea to encourage people to go out during long winter time. Many countries should study this initiatives. Great idea to see city and private sector work together.

I know there are some people who like to knock the skyway system because it saps pedestrians from the street, which is true, but if skyways didn't exist the circulation downtown would be significantly reduced in bad weather. As a downtown worker, I appreciate being able to travel to restaurants, shopping, government services (even my dentist!) when its pouring rain... More

I'm so happy that the city decided to implement such a great idea for the commuters, travelers and visitors to the city. The winters can be quite cold and walking in a tunnel above traffic and the snow piles is a great respite. Every cold weather city should have something like this. The signage and directions are easy to follow... More

My young children enjoyed the view and power they felt towering over cars on the streets below. Probably a God-send in the winter but fun to try in the summer, as well.

The Minneapolis skyway system networks the second (and in one case, third) floor of skyscrapers dotted throughout the downtown. This is great when you are staying in an area hotel and is extremely useful to the thousands of corporate employees that work downtown, as they can leave their coats in the highway while seeking lunch in one of the many... Though our visit to Minneapolis was in June, and the weather was for the most part great - this 7 mile tunnel in the sky was very impressive - particularly as the winters here are, apparently, very severe. On our last afternoon, we were on Nicolette Mall and it started to rain - no drama - simply found the nearest... More

The importance of skyway system is felt intensely during winter. To date, there could be no better alternative to the skyway system to travel around downtown Minneapolis without freezing in winter.
