I am biased. I live on the Chain of Lakes. No other city has such an amazing resource. Enjoy one or take them all in with a bike ride (see Nice Ride) or with a very long walk. Each is different, each is wonderful. And while you are there enjoying them, hold in tension that the Met Council plan for... More

No trip to Minneapolis is complete without a tour of this outstanding chain of lakes. i have not seen another city where there are a group of inter-connected lakes within the city limits. This area is one of the most visited in all of Minneapolis and is famous for its variety of outdoor activities: Bike trails, walking trails, sailing, canoe... More

Having grown up on one of these lakes I have an obvious bias. It was like a private preserve when I was you. Still beautiful and many things to do. Rent a bike and tour them all. Then pushover to Minnehaha creek and on to the MIssissippi River. Or, simply enjoy a walk and spend some time at the beaches.

I am so impressed with the walking paths, bike paths, and outdoor areas in Minneapolis. The area around the lakes is gorgeous, and I wish I had gone earlier in the day. There are bikes available for rental, but it is also a lovely stroll. Great place to get some sunshine with friends or alone!

The Minneapolis Chain of Lakes is a certified Gem of the City! Where other than Central Park can you enjoy city views and the tranquility of a beautifully maintained and cared for lake in the middle of a bustling city? We frequent often and use our SUP's to navigate and get away for a day. I highly recommend Wheel Fun... More

This place was beautiful and serene! We rode bikes here and walked around the lakes. It was nice to see so many people out enjoying the walking and biking paths. Many people brought their dogs, and we enjoyed watching one dog swim in the lake fetching sticks. We found a little patio next to a canoe rental business on Lake... More

The three lakes that are most accesible are Isles, Calhoun and Harriet. These are best seen by bicycle or on foot via the walking path. the distance around each lake is 3 miles. So it 3 x 45 to 50 minutes for each lake.

Minneapolis is known for its beautiful chain of lakes, with well-kept paved trails right along the waters edge. It's a wonderful place to walk, ride bike, rollerblade or if you prefer to be on the water, rent a kayak or canoe on Lake Calhoun and wind your way through to Lake of the Isles. Beautiful homes line Lake of Isles... More
