Owner description: THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory." Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

This place has some very very unique architectural features. I like this place so much I go here frequently just to enjoy the view. The Architect, Jean Nouvel, from France, is world renowned and is one of Brad Pitt's favorites, Brad really should visit it some day. There is the Amber box on the 9th floor and the Endless Bridge,... More

We went a musical for a Christmas girl night out. It was a great experience. The food was tasty but not spectacular. I'm guessing the ticket price was for the show which was fantastic. The only real disadvantage was half of each table had their back to the stage and there was not enough room to allow chairs to fully... More

I paid $149 for two tickets to see Cocktail Hour and I want my money back. The reviews said: "delightfully witty wordplay"....NOT! "funny and poignant"...NOT! "perfect alternative holiday entertainment"...NOT. I think they meant to say "the perfect alternative TO holiday entertainment". I've seen many plays at the Guthrie and enjoyed them all. But this one was so B-O-R-I-N-G it managed... More

As I was in Minneapolis I decided to try my luck and managed to get a ticket to see the production of A Christmas Carol - which is an institution at the Guthrie for Christmas. A theatre with a modern look outside and inside and, I believe, has two stages inside. I was very surprised at how small and cosy... More

We have seen several shows at the Guthrie. It is a wonderful place to visit. It is festive and always fun. The Christmas Carol was a wonderful night. The setting on the Mississippi River is beautiful. In the summer, it is fun to walk outside and see the views of downtown Minneapolis. There are several restaurants within the Guthrie -... More

My Wife and I are in Minneapolis for a week to Christmas Shop at the Mall of America. We were asking about a show and The Guthrie Theater was recommended to us. We found tickets on Stub Hub for A Christmas Carol. It was the most amazing show we have ever seen, we both agreed it was One of the... More

The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis Minnesota was founded by Tyrone Guthrie and others in 1963 in an attempt to create a great theatre far removed from the commercial pressure of Broadway in New York City. We have gone to the Guthrie several times in the last few years at the invitation of our daughter and son-in-law who live in Minneapolis.... More

They have free head sets which I find very comfortable. I can now hear every tiny whisper through the head sets. Every seat we have had in both theaters seems to have a great view.

The quality of productions clearly is impressive. The view of the Mississippi is stunning, night or day. My problem is not with the plays but with the painfully inadequate leg room in the Wurtele Thrust Stage theater. I don't know how I managed to sit through an entire play without leaping out of my seat and shouting, in a theatrical... More

If you want to see a world-class theater production, attend a play at the Guthrie! Also, the building itself, located alongside the Mississippi, is a must-see. The views from the endless bridge are beautiful. There are several theaters in the building, the Wurtle Thrust stage and the McGuire Prosenium, plus the Dowling Studio, which are often simultaneously presenting different plays.... More
