Description: THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance...
THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory." Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

I've been to many performances at the Guthrie, and they are superb. The staging, costuming, sets, acting--all stellar, always. It's wonderful that they have both the proscenium and thrust stages. My favorite has always been the thrust stage as you feel a more intimate connection with the show. Today I went with friends on the Guthrie's 'behind the scenes' tour... More

Beautiful building with an amazing view -- floor to ceiling windows on 9th floor look out onto stone bridge and a wide view of Minneapolis. Great restaurant (Sea Change) on first floor. The Guthrie is one of the top theater companies in the country, so any performance here will be worth seeing. Just outside the beautiful stone bridge -- great... More

The Guthrie is worth a visit, if even only to see the uniquely designed exterior. Even if you don't have a ticket to a show, you can meander your way up the long escalator to the jet out over West River Road. Shows here are good too. Lots of Shakespeare and classics visit the stage. Ticket or not, bring a... More

I've never been in the new facility and it was everything I had heard. Beautiful, great seats, temperature nice (not too cool, nor too warm.)

Lana and Linda were both excellent and informative guides. It was a wonderful insight to what goes on behind the scenes. The community aspects of the theatre came through very strongly. Highly recommended.

My wife and I always like going to the Guthrie. This time we had on-stage seating (Please remember that Shakespeare did Theater in the Round). It was great being on the stage and the production was fantastic. We would go again. The Guthrie always adds new twists to an "old" play so it was very entertaining. As it was Shakespeare,... More

The buiding's architecture inside and out, the comfortable seating around the top levels with spectacular views of the city's skyline and arched bridge. The food served at their cafe, and the drinks one can take outside for an incredible view and photo opportunity made this stop an unforgettable one. A Midsummer Night's Dream was a fantastic way to culminate the... More

Guess I have not been to the new theater for a decade or so as the entire design and set up was foreign to me. But the whole evening flowed like a dream. Parking across the street was super easy with the heads up for $8 in cash to enter. Walked across the street and up the elevator to the... More

Checking out the architecture is special enough but taking in a play is an added highlight. We saw A Midsummer Night's Dream - superb. Guthrie Theater is a must see venue !
