Description: THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance...
THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory." Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

My friend and I saw a matinee here and it was very good. The production quality and acting were excellent. We rode our bikes and it began to downpour just as we were leaving, which gave us a chance to wander around this beautiful building while waiting out the storm. Absolutely worth the trip, no matter what show you intend... More

The Guthrie offers a range of fascinating experiences. Of course the core is the wide theatrical range of plays from major productions to smaller experimental offerings in several different theaters; target audiences vary depending on the play. There are a range of refreshment options from a spacious full service restaurant, Sea Change, on the ground floor level which offers excellent... More

THE Guthrie is a treasure, but the escalator to the performance area is a 4 story tunnel in the darkness. Once you get up, the performances are outstanding as are the views, the food is some better than Ok BUT the Frank Lloyd style projection out over the river is absolutely amazing.

I went to see A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie theater in December and it was fantastic! From the ghosts to Scrooge himself, this play was as if this were happening in real life! The actors came from back stage, sides of the stages, and from stairs that led downward in the front! There is a really neat escalator that... More

I've been to many performances at the Guthrie, and they are superb. The staging, costuming, sets, acting--all stellar, always. It's wonderful that they have both the proscenium and thrust stages. My favorite has always been the thrust stage as you feel a more intimate connection with the show. Today I went with friends on the Guthrie's 'behind the scenes' tour... More

Beautiful building with an amazing view -- floor to ceiling windows on 9th floor look out onto stone bridge and a wide view of Minneapolis. Great restaurant (Sea Change) on first floor. The Guthrie is one of the top theater companies in the country, so any performance here will be worth seeing. Just outside the beautiful stone bridge -- great... More

The Guthrie is worth a visit, if even only to see the uniquely designed exterior. Even if you don't have a ticket to a show, you can meander your way up the long escalator to the jet out over West River Road. Shows here are good too. Lots of Shakespeare and classics visit the stage. Ticket or not, bring a... More

I've never been in the new facility and it was everything I had heard. Beautiful, great seats, temperature nice (not too cool, nor too warm.)
