We were in town and had some hours to invest. Selected this art museum based on location and price (free). Two kids and two adults on the visit. The exhibits are expansive, well lit, well documented, and easy to navigate. We moved constantly through ancient Chinese culture, greek, middle eastern, turkish, african, and more. Came to a special modern exhibit... More

this museum offers a wide selection of world class art, in beautiful galleries. The period furnishings exhibit is very interesting. There are also many paintings and sculptures by very famous artists. There is good food available. Our kids ( ages 10 and 15) found things to enjoy. It is also really affordable, with donation box instead of admission fees.

Parking on the street is easy enough. Understand that the entrance is on the east side (I didn't know this) so park accordingly if you want to minimize the walk. Once you are inside, this is set up like many art museums, with many interlocking galleries with different themes. What we found unique was some of the more modern pieces... More

Really need a full day to take in all the great exhibits. And there were specials worth seeing too, such as the Van Gogh iris picture and the Da Vinci exhibit.

Of all the art galleries and institutes I visited in my trip across America this was my favourite. The building itself is wonderful, light, airy, uncluttered and calm. The collection itself is superb and wide ranging. I loved the staged rooms and their modern collection.

Most recent visit was to see Leonardo da Vinci codex - interesting exhibit with helpful use of technology and combined with modern examples of innovation, enjoyed several other more contemporary exhibits - always well done at MIA

We went on a Sunday when there was art activities going on in tents outside the museum. There were lots of art projects for kids to do. The museum was busy but you could still see whatever you wanted. And there was plenty to see. Three floors of art of every type. I especially liked the Napoleon Bonaparte tea set.... More

Considering this museum is free, there is no reason not to visit. The exhibits are wonderful. Plan on staying longer than you anticipate-- there is a lot to see.

No way to see everything. Admission by voluntary donation, free membership. We saw an exhibit of photographs (one from each year of the museum's existence) and a great collection of industrial design objects organized by decade. The new wing has a very nice modern dining area.
