While I'm glad that the Walker if there if I want to see a performance installation of a live woman lying motionless in the 3rd floor gallery for a month, the Mpls. Institute of Arts (MIA) is a treasure trove of art of every persuasion. From ultra modern art to Rembrant's Lucrecia to 18th century jade carvings to native american... More

Located near cheap eateries and across the street from a park, this is a nice way to pass a few hours viewing wonders of art through the centuries, and it's FREE!

This museum is known for the diversity across its collections as well as for their depth and quality. In addition to the typical European and American paintings and sculptures, there are extensive holdings of Asian arts and artifacts, of native American crafts and textiles, arts of the Americas and Africa. The collections of prints, drawings, and photography round out the experience..... More

Every year they do a floral interpretation of different pieces to match a theme or feel and it's amazing! The whole place smells wonderful too!

There is possibly no other location in the Twin Cities, other than our residence, that I have visited more often than the MIA. Succinctly a visit enriches my mind while our 10 year old twins enjoy the diverse collections, especially Asian, and the food.

We've got a wonderful art museum tucked away in a residential neighborhood in the center of the city. I was just there to see the Matisse exhibit & again was amazed at the galleries full of treasures-from ancient China & Egypt to the Modern masters. Period Rooms with furniture & decor from Elizabethan England to Victorian New England. An authentic... More

My favorite art museum. There are period rooms reflecting different periods of American history as well as some from various Asian cultures. I love the African exhibit and the jade from china.

I went there on a bus trip to view the "Shaw Collection" Native American art. That by itself was the most comprehensive collection on Native American art that I could have wished to see. In addition to that there was floor upon floor of other masters, art prints, sculptures and more from many countries. Put this on your list of... More

The traveling exhibits are very interesting and carried, but the primary collection is lacking in impressionists. The ancient and Asian collection is substantial considering the size of MIA. Worth stoping by for a few hours!
