I visited the MIA in January 2008 with my art major sister and mother after living in Minneapolis for 2+ years and never going. I was surprised by my own enjoyment of the museum. The quality of the collection at the Minneapolis Art Institute rivals any in the country, yet it is small enough to see in a day without getting too overwhelmed. I had a great time at the MIA. The displays are great (very informative) and I really liked the period rooms. It was not far from the highway and was pretty easy to find. It was well worth the trip and I only wish we had more time. more

I went there several years ago with my parents and we loved it. Since then, I've taken several friends. In my opinion, it's the best place in Minneapolis! In addition to having great art, it's bright and airy, cheerful, and free. I think it's also a trolley tour stop. more

Wow - I went here not knowing what to expect & I was delighted. I wanted to take my 7 year old to an art museum & researched ones in Mnpls. AAA said I should visit the Walker art center but when I checked their website they did not recommend it for children. Anyway, long story short - free parking,... more
