What happened?! There used to be a great swimming beach and now it is just a mud hole. The bike trails are nice and the hiking is fun.

In SW MN, near Pipestone National Monument, this natural site was known/used since Conestoga's traveled to the west. Mined for it's stone this gigantic bluff towers over the area. The main entrance has the small ranger station, camping, fishing and maps. The 'other' entrance can be driven to or hiked to, which I recommend. The acreage is such that they... More

We stayed in one of the park's tipi campsites which was delightful. It was fun to camp without having to set up or take down a tent. The tipi itself was spacious inside and had great ventilation. Pit toilets are near the tipis and some other carry-in sites, and there is a true shower house with flush toilets a short... More

I took my family camping there over the 4th of July. The kids had a great time, and the park is really nice and quiet, well maintained with lots of nice trails and clean bathrooms. The interpretive center is not by the campground, so be prepared to hike or drive there. It was the place that had the best chance... More

Blue Mound State Park, about six miles north of I-90 near Luverne, MN, covers 1826 acres of mostly prairie and includes a 500 acre fenced in area for bison. The park has two areas which are reached quickest by driving between the two, but you can also hike a roughly three mile trail. The northern section is the larger and... More

An easy stroll through an expansive field led to a heard of buffalo - huge, lumbering animals and many younger calves. The heard was right next to the fence - and so were we! They stared at us as we stood in silence and watched them, taking pictures and videos. Another family came and still the herd didn't move away.... More

At check in I asked a some questions about nearby hikes and was given great tips. I really appreciate when workers are familiar with the area. The campsite was average, pretty level, etc. The bathrooms by our campsite were very clean (but I stopped in the other bathhouse and it was not).

We are finishing up our long weekend camping trip and will leave tomorrow. We are at #47 campsite (electric). It is well placed. This is a quiet campground with lots of wildlife to see. The campsites are very close together which looked uncomfortable when we first arrived, but for some reason you don't hear everyone's conversations and it seems quiet.... More

We enjoyed hiking among the rock formations, especially the bluffs, and wished we'd had time to ride our bicycles around the park. The paths were well-marked and easy to navigate. The Interpretive Center/Manfred home was fascinating, and we were able to climb the spiral staircase to enjoy the view that inspired the local author.

We only spent a few minutes at one area of the park - but it is very nice. Lots of wildlife and gorgeous scenery from a hilltop view.
