Cuyuna is a great place if you like the outdoors. Everyone raves about the mountain bike trails, and they aren't kidding you. I got to experience them through the I Can...Mountain Bike program through the Minnesota DNR. I highly recommend the program for beginning bikers to get biking tips in general but also to gain information on the area. There... More

We found a great place to camp at Portsmouth Campground. The swimming beach was clean. The waters are good for diving. The prices are reasonable. The bathrooms/showers are kept fairly clean. I was pleasantly surprised. Just fair warning the ground is red and everything is stained red now. After swimming a few times the liner in my suit is red.... More

Professionally developed, these human made trails have revitalized the old mines into a mountain biking paradise and an unusual snorkel/SCUBA opportunity that exceeded out expectations! The bike trails are "New School" and BOBSLED is the cream of the crop! At the main trail head they have changing rooms, bike washes and swimming. The very well marked trails are broken into... More

We had a BLAST on the trails here! Hit all the trails in the Mahnomen Unit (sidewinder, sand hog etc.) from easy to most difficult. The climbs, views & speeds coming back down were so much fun! Then drove over to the Yawkey Unit of trails & hit all the around Yawkey mine like. Bobsled was not to be missed!... More

This is a large recreation area, and has a lot of mountain bike trails. There is a brand new parking area on the east side of Huntington Mine Lake, and that parking area has a bike maintenance station complete with tools including a bike tire pump. Be sure to go to the top of Miner's Mountain to see the view... More

I am from MN and didn't start Mtn Biking seriously until I arrived in the Pacific NW. Didn't think I'd find a spot in MN that could rival the fun trails in Whistler BC and our local Seattle area spots. But - the trails at Cuyuna, while not lengthy, are packed with moderate climbing and sweet moderate downhill sections (e.g.... More

A couple of years ago I wrote a review after I first visited this location and only had a basic understanding of this area. I've now visited at least a dozen times and want to provide an update. First, the biking trails are incredible and I'm not over exaggerating. They have one nice paved trail that you can take for... More

We made the trip here with some friends to camp and bike. Part of the area is being worked on by construction crews, but there are alternative routes to get where you want to go. There are no shortage of trails for every sort of rider from beginner to advanced. The scenery is great, especially from the top of the... More

First off I would like to say that I was probably the only person in the area who did not do the bike trails. However, the group camp site was fantastic! I loved sleeping near the water and hearing the frogs sing all night. This was a great place to relax and tell stories around the campfire. Even though the... More

The Cuyuna bike trails have turned a sow's ear into a silk purse! The trails are beautifully designed and wind through northern forests of pine, birch and hardwoods while skirting gorgeous lakes that were once ugly open pit iron mines. The hills were once waste heaps from mining operations, but, are now nicely forested.
