Unfortunately we didn't arrive at the Bear Center early enough to spend as much time as we'd liked, but it was well worth the visit. There are lots of nice displays, with a lot of the information directed at what to do if you encounter a bear. This information was very good and would be valuable to anyone who spends... More

The new hall's diorama is a visual delight. The sounds of the birds are not only authentic but so pleasant to listen to while sitting and watching a slideshow of the birds being heard. There are some live exhibits for children and adults to handle and view at close range. Of course, the live bears in action bring this entire... More

A truly "Must" if you are visiting North Minnesota. It's the only place were I could found a well-organised display of Bears evolution, bears behavior and a lot of scientific-based bear facts. The bears in the enclosure are amazing ! It takes you at least a couple of hours but they are rally good spent. Alfredo

I have the great fortune to have had a lot of great experiences with Black Bears, and decades of friendship with Lynn Rogers. This past July I had the opportunity to return for a visit to Ely and took the time to check out the Bear Center. I was very impressed with the scope of the exhibit. I have traveled... More

This is a wonderful place to visit, and a couple of the bears seemed a bit over-weight. The explanation was that they were getting ready for hibernation, but they simply seem overfed. That said, you can certainly get close to the bears, and the center itself is well constructed and full of neat stuff. Will return in the future.

The interior of the Center is packed with written information, picture and videos all about bears. In addition to viewing the bear out in the open paddock area, a guide also takes you behind the scenes to view the remaining bears, resting in their individual dens. All the staff we met were very friendly.

It was a fun activity to do. It was late in the season so the bears were getting ready to bed down for the winter. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

The new Northwoods Ecology Center is a wonderful new addition to the Bear Center - beautiful displays make it feel as though you are in the woods - excellent activities for kids, families and adults alike! Very friendly staff, and had the opportunity to go behind the scenes to see the bears up close.
