Vacation Town

Many shops to browse through, unique items, very friendly people - always willing to help you out. Everyone seemed to be smiling and happy.

This is a tourist town. I worked in the are in the 60's, had businesses in the areas after that until after 2000. Had the opportunity to visit in July, 2015. Interesting that a fellow from Missouri has recently purchased a number of white elephant businesses, I certainly hope that he can help the area. This is a nice day... More

Ely is, by far, the most Geocache-friendly city I have ever been to! If this is a hobby of your family, by all means, plan a trip! Fun and creative placements are everywhere. If you're not into Geocaching, the kids can still complete a citywide scavenger hunt. Pick up a game card at the visitor center.

We drove into Ely from Tower, MN and the scenic drive is absolutely fantastic. Sheridan Street is similar to main streets in a lot of "up north" towns with a lot of mom and pop shops carrying things for furnishing cabins, clothes or camping. There are also a number of restaurants. It was o.k., but nothing really made me want... More

There's no reason why a town that attracts people for all 4 seasons can't have store fronts that are open all year round. They wonder what they can do to attract business but when 80% of the stores close after Labor Day and miss ALL the fall color season tourists and the snow lovers, the answer is obvious. They also... If you come to town, this street has all the shops and restaurants in Ely. We walked around and went in several shops. It was very pleasant.

Nice place to shop for a small town. You can get yourself lost for an afternoon pretty easy here. Not a lot more than that.

I visited the shops on the main drag of town. Most things were open, but most things were poor quality and over priced. I had to go back and return some items, which was a pain. The rock shop was worth visiting but isn't open every day.

Loved that there was a mixture of shops, galleries and restaurants! All of them great! I would recommend a weekend stay to enjoy it all!

Many of the shops on Sheridan Street seem to have been closed up for the season. One shop had soda's unique to Ely- we got a blueberry soda and some Minnesota buzz. We were able to visit Mealey's and found some wonderful unique gifts for my in-laws. If you are in the area, check them out, but if you want... More
