It seems that most of the people who travel to this rather remote state park near Ely do so for the fishing. The vast majority of the people were out on the lake in small boats, canoes, kayaks, etc. We came to just have a quiet couple days and do some hiking. The hiking trails were entirely empty. We started... More

Our camping party arrived on Friday, we found the park to be fairly well maintained. Within our camping party were 2 children ages 9 and 12. At 10:00pm we were all sitting around around the camp fire talking when the park ranger informed us that there had been a noise complaint, one of the children moments prior had dropped a... More

We spent the week at a cabin on Eagles Nest Lakes and did not want to walk on the road. We found out that there is an annual state park pass that costs 5x more than the daily vehicle fee and since we were staying the week we could break even by buying the annual pass then still have the... More

Enjoyed camping here and park was pretty. all staff was mean. Trails need work and are below the standard for other mn parks. They allow trunks to have coolers in the back even though bears around. No security in the campground. Canoers have to transport there paddles from office. Mainly instate people around. Lots of traffic and construction coming from... More

The state park is very well maintained. They have many hiking trails and boat rentals. All camping sites can be easily reserved online. Bathrooms are kept clean and shower facilities have hot water available 24 hours.

This park has received well-deserved accolades as it has friendly staff, nice (for state park) camping sites and fantastic lakes for canoeing that nearly match the BWCA experience. Close enough to Ely for a drive into town or vist to Bear Center. Next time we would try canoe-in camping site as they look fantastic.

Great campground. Sites have privacy and your not rubbing elbows with the neighbors like at private campgrounds. Only peace and quiet and no drunks buzzing around on noisy golf carts like at those commercial places. The lake is completely undeveloped and is well stocked with game and pan fish. They have a brand new shower building and it is very... More

Crystal clear water that was as smooth as a sheet of plate glass, the only sound was the loons calling, perfect sunrise light, any so many wonderful views that I almost threw out the rules of composition and just started snapping pictures!

Just finished 4 days at Bear Head Lake State Park and it was super awesome. We stayed in one of the Camper Cabins, they are in a nice area specifically set aside for 4 of them, with a clean vault toilet and potable water in the middle. Awesome trails, great scenery, and it is quite awesome to enjoy a lake... More

Nice campground - clean, untouched lake was gorgeous. They offer rentals for kayaks, boats, canoe's and paddle boards. It rained one whole day so headed to the Soudan Mine. We're used to the North Shore campgrounds where more interesting sites, rock climbing and views are the norm. This was plesant but won't return.
