There is so much to see along the north shore that we spent a week there. There are plenty of hiking trails and places to stop and have a BBQ. The towns have shops but some can be a little pricey. We Stayed at the Casino At Grand portage which was very centrally located to our plans and had the... More

Nothing is more beautiful than a ride along hwy 61, and along this route you come along some of the greatest views and towns that Minnesota has to offer. Two harbors offers quaint charm and some interesting choices for dining while up the shore are split rock lighthouse and grand Marais .

I have traveled the NSSD 50 or more times and never tire of its beauty. Magical Lake views, scenes of majestic cliffs an hills. Numerous pull outs make it easy access. Also there are many wonderful state parks along the route to be discovered. But best of all are the people; friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and easy to engage. So take... More

No matter where you are on the drive, no matter what season. It is a beautiful sight. Lake Superior changes daily - enjoy the ride.

We go up to Duluth from the Twin Cities every year, and the drive is amazing up the shore all the way to Grand Marais! Fall colors are unbelievable, the waterfalls and state parks are great. We are very fortunate to live so close.

I've been driving up the North Shore for many years, and never tire of the lake. Great views, and some great stopping places.

Just as you leave Duluth going north on 61 you will see the sign for the scenic drive turnoff to the left. If you are not in a hurry--take it! You will wind and curve along Lake Superior some 30 or so miles and get back on 61 just as you enter Two Harbors. Get a map and some tourist... More

breathtaking drive. The trip from Duluth to Grand Marais is absolutely beautiful and every season has it's own beauty. Be sure you don't need to stop for gas or relief if you go in the winter, not much is open in the long stretch, lol!

We had never seen Lake Superior frozen over, but now we can say we have. Stayed in Two Harbors and Castle Danger for five wonderful activity filled days. Over a period of years we had managed to drive all the way around this fantastic lake, but this was a first in winter. The good wife enjoyed snowshoeing, and even enjoyed... More

We loved this drive. The views were spectacular and there are several places to pull over. The only minor complaint we have is that we saw very little wildlife. We even went all the way up the Gunflint Trail and the only wild animal we saw was a squirrel!
