History comes alive on the Lakefront line of the North Shore Scenic Railroad! During our summer season several trains a day depart the historic Duluth Union Depot for a trip through downtown Duluth, Canal Park, along the shore of Lake Superior and deep into the majestic north woods. Fully narrated tours tell the history of Duluth, the harbor, and the stories of the railroads that built northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The North Shore Scenic Railroad has plenty to see and do. If you like trains or have kids that like trains this is the place.

Our, at the time, 2 year old loves trains. Can't get enough of them. He loved looking out the windows as we traveled and the whole experience of getting on the train for the ride. We took the short Lester river run and it was perfect. We will be back and we are thinking that we will go on the... More

I recently took the train from Duluth up to Two Harbors and back. What a hoot! We were part of private party, where a few extra cars were added to the back. We had food, live music, dancing and games as we traveled the shore line on a perfect, sunny day. With a couple of the cars partially open to... More

At first you will be caught off guard once you find out that the trip is within a single decorated train car. I was thinking that I paid how much for what?? But then you board and take a short ride past the lights downtown and end up at the train depot. Within the Depot you will enjoy a very... More

What a great review! Thanks so much for the kind words, we love hearing from passengers, especially when they have a great time. Many people describe their first ride as "continuous surprises" and we like that! Thanks so much for riding, and hope to see you again in the future. More

Came with our 3 children 5 and under for train ride to Bentleyville. Staff was professional, helpful and friendly. Loved the authentic train and staff in costume. We all had such fun seeing a few sights down to Bentleyville. Price is great and will do again. Find parking early as this area needs improvement.

This was our grandsons first train ride. He had never been on a train before so it was great just watching him. He had the biggest smile on his face! My Dad worked for the railroad so I have been on many train rides. It really brought back some wonderful memories!!! Thanks!

A most excellent adventure geared to children for the adults to enjoy as they see the wonderful excitement in the children's eyes. It was very well done with a nice story enactment plus a visit with Santa at the Depot. It was a wonderful time to spend doing something a little different with our grandchildren. You cannot go wrong to... More

Magical, kids loved it, I loved it, all the staff does a great job!!! I would recommend this to anyone with young children. The Santa is amazing! Our daughters (5 and 6) told us he's the real Santa, not a 'working Santa'!

A fun trip on the Christmas City Express. It was definitely geared towards young children and they had a blast. They do a great job - the train, story-telling, carolers, hot cocoa and cookies, visiting with Santa, and a souvenir ornament. It would have been nice to have a little more time at the Depot to explore some of the... More

The ride was ok. I was expecting to see some nice scenery and fall colors. The ride never left town, so we basically just got to see gas stations and houses. The "pumpkin patch" was just an empty lot in a residential neighborhood with a pile of pumpkins. The museum was much better than the actual ride. Lots going on... More
