History comes alive on the Lakefront line of the North Shore Scenic Railroad! During our summer season several trains a day depart the historic Duluth Union Depot for a trip through downtown Duluth, Canal Park, along the shore of Lake Superior and deep into the majestic north woods. Fully narrated tours tell the history of Duluth, the harbor, and the stories of the railroads that built northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

I had never been on a train before, so I didn't know what to expect. It was fun although it smelled like a gym locker room & i thought the train ride would be longer. It's only a 10 min ride. Once at the depot, the train displays were magnificent! There were Carolers singing as we were allowed into the... More

So glad to hear you had a great time on the Christmas City Express. It is a difficult event to fully explain how it works (in terms of the ride length), but after doing events like this for nearly 20 years now, we’ve found that the shorter ride, with lots of other components works great with the kids. Isn’t the... More

This use to be called the polar express and now it changed to Christmas city express.. All the magic is gone for our kids.. No dressing in their pj's.. No bell at the end.. No "hot chocolate" song on the train.. We will skip next year if they don't change it back.

Very sorry to hear you don’t enjoy the Christmas City Express. A few years ago, we ended our 10 years doing the Polar Express event when the big corporate empire of Warner Brothers insisted on a huge royalty be paid to them – needless to say, this was far beyond our means and does not fit our mission. We set... More

We look our two grandchildren, ages 6 and 3 on this train ride and storytelling stop at the Depot. They just loved it. The storyteller did an excellent job, and the accompanying slides really helped hold the children's attention as well. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if the departure back to Fitger's would... More

The train ride was GREAT added fun on our first trip to Bentleyville. The conductor and crossing guards were extremely nice and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Fitgers had direction signs all over inside, so finding where to pick up tickets was very easy. I would definitely do this again!

I love the Bentleyville Shuttle Train! Thanks so much for riding with me, as I was your conductor that night along with several other volunteers who make the train possible. It is truly an amazing event, as all of Bentleyville is volunteer operated too. I hope you had a great holiday season, and thank you for the positive feedback! See... More

Overall it was fun experience. My children loved it. The only compliment I have is the price. I think it's expensive for it being 90 mins long, but I did enjoy the whole experience. I really enjoyed the lady that read the story she was very good at keeping the kids interested. She did an excellent job.

This really was an extraordinary Activity for my 3 year old!! She really enjoyed the ride to see all the Beautiful lights of Bentleyville for Christmas. I only have 1 complaint and that would be that we missed the Train Ride back to my vehicle, which was not a walk-able distance. I stood in the Santa line for over 2... More

We chose to ride the train from Fitgers to Bentleyville. It was a good choice. The train ride was fun for our grandkids and a great way to avoid the traffic near Bentleyville. The conductor and others on the train were friendly and helpful. I ordered the tickets online and picked them up at Fitgers with no problem. We are... More

The only fall colors we saw that were at all pretty was when we were still in Duluth. The rest of the ride was boring. We had delays getting started and delays when arriving in Two Harbors. The restaurants in Two Harbors were so full our entire time there was spent getting our meal. (We were suppose to have 2... More

Hello, It is a hard thing to predict the brilliance of the fall colors as they tend to vary their peak from year to year, it is also hard to predict freight traffic infront of us. Most of the time we’re able to follow our schedule precisely, but due to circumstances outside of our ability, we often get delayed a... More

This trip was not what it seemed at all! Was very disappointed after driving 3 1/2 hours and spending 120 dollars...the staff seemed disorganized and after standing in the rain for 15 minutes, we were very excited to board. However, the excitement ended very quickly when the train stopped on the tracks for 15 minutes (with no explanation to us,)... More
