We camped here for a few nights. The campsite were clean and spaced out enough. The sites are under a canopy of pine trees. However, there is not a lot of trees or brush between sites so there isn't a lot of privacy between camp sites. I did not have cell service while I was in the campground. I have... More

Great hiking tails through a boreal forest. A bike trial runs from Duluth to at least Lutsen. Scenic HW 61 is the way to strat your adventure. There are numerous pulls offs and attractions, camping, hiking, and access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and Wilderness. On occasion a moose, coyote, or wolf may be spotted. Bald eagles are getting... More

The Superior National Forest has many free campgrounds on beautiful lakes. The fishing, canoeing and hiking trails were excellent. Check out the National Forest website for locations and amenities.

This is real wilderness. Moose sitings are common on the forest trails and the Gunflint Trail. The lakes are wild yet serene. Trail Center Lodge serves the best steaks -- but Windigo has the best bartender!

The views alone are worth visiting the Superior National Forest. I highly recommend hiking the Carlton Peak and spending the night near Temperance River. These may be the greatest views Minnesota has to offer. If you're up for a short day hike, try out the Oberg Mountain loop. Dog and kid friendly area. I will definitely visit this area again.... Not exactly in Duluth. It's about 1.5 to 2 hours drive from the City. The visitor center is in Duluth, but that's it.
