The perfect accompaniment to a Fall Color excursion trip on the historic 4-8-4 Steam Engine 261 (see friendsof261.org). Minnesota's railroad heritage is very well represented in this award-winning museum. Unfortunately, due to diminishing funding, there aren't many updated displays. The 300+ "261 travelers" quickly bought out the original dreamsicle bars at the old-time soda fountain.

We were in town to ride the 'Thomas Train' which was a very fun ride for the grand children. We have been to the museum many times over the years. I would recommend it as a must see attraction for anyone visiting Duluth.

Nice display of old trains. They had many that you could walk into and get a good idea of what it was like to travel in the old days.

Cool displays of life back then and many trains to walk through and tour. There are trains outdoors too. If you're a fan, you'll dig this.

This is what a train museum should be! If you are short on time, skip the upstairs exhibits and start at the lower level where the actual trains are! Amazing! Next time we are there I hope we'll be able to take the train ride along the lake shore.

Nice collection and displays. In a historic Depot with other museums. Definitely a stop for railfans and history buffs, but interesting to others as well. A great warm up for the train rides that depart from the same location.

Fun, informative and beautiful! Kids have things to look at, there's a snack shop to get a limited snack. Thanks all!

What a terrific museum. Lots of different rail cars to explore & most of them you can climb on & check out the interior. There are working model trains to try out. And there are train trips that can be taken up the North Shore. Don't miss it!!

One of the better railway museums you will go to. The train ride, the station, the museum, the interesting and patient volunteers are all to be commended. Even the snack bar on the train ride, the pop, chips and bars at $ 1 each ! These people deserve all the support they can get.

Our 3-year-old son is currently obsessed with trains courtesy of Thomas & Friends, so we thought this would be perfect stop during a weekend getaway...We were wrong. While Informative for adults (there are even several trains/cars you can actually get into), it lacked appeal for young children, and we had to cut the trip short because it was incredibly hot...
