Open cars are chilly, so take a jacket or choose the closed car for ride, even in the summer. Conductors will take your picture in front of the train if you ask. More

The museum is worth visitng yearround but I'd opt for a summer/fall visit and ride the train to Two Harbors and its interesting railroad station and exhibits. There's a lot more to this museum than old trains! The museum has a collection of hundreds--if not thousands--of donated antiques. There's plenty to keep an avid photographer or a young child busy for hours. We spent a solid 3 hours checking everything out. It was well worth the price of admission! More
