This is a location I like to travel to when I want to shoot photos of wild life, both big and small.

I stayed at the Hilton which is across from the welcome center. The trail head has about a .4 mile steep decent then it levels out for the next 2 miles. The trail was under water in 50 to 100 yard stretches that forced you into the higher grass at times. Over all if dry I think it would be... More

We went here to keep the kids busy while waiting for the MOA to open. It was only ok, but that may be because it was freezing out and so we were only inside. The kids had fun birdwatching, and there were a couple cute activities there. I would definitely give it another try in warmer weather.

It's a beautiful and peaceful area on the edge of the bustling Twin Cities and between several busy highways. Despite all that you don't hear or notice anything AT ALL from that. Because it's located in a valley the noise doesn't reach you at all. When I walked here in November I was completely alone and the fall landscape was... More

its amazing that these trails are right in the city and close to the airport! You would never know it! They follow the Minnesota river and you feel as though youre in the country, not in the city at all.

Very accessible nature center located across the street from the Hilton hotel. Paved and gravel paths take you down to the river bottoms with 2-5 miles marked paths through an undeveloped area of "old Minnesota" less than a mile from the airport. Very unique spot--wild within shouting distance of the urban sprawl. Check it out.

I stayed at the Hilton, so it was the nicest place close to the hotel to go for a walk. I took a walk down to the river, which was introduced as "strenuous". It was absolutely not and took only a short time. There is a nice little museum and bookstore. I think the bookstore has a lot of interesting... More

This is special because it is a 'rural area' in an urban setting. I SO appreciate that the Twin Cities area has had the foresight to set aside lakes, parkland and wildlife areas in the urban areas themselves for many to enjoy. THIS is what makes this area so special and MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge is very near the... More

This wildlife refuge sits right next to the airport. It is very peaceful except when a plane took off. While we didn't see much wildlife, the trails were well marked. Because some of the trails were flooded, we weren't able to continue our hike, but it was a great place for some peace and quiet.

This is a refuge that goes along the river where you seldom run into many others and you can hardly help but see birds of prey, deer, turkeys and smaller ceatures.
