its special to us, all staffed with volunteers, and then they sponsor other events, just great home town but high end thinking going on, comfortable seats, you can find free parking, its right down town one could catch a movie while another would shop, or go to the beach for a few hours, everything is very walk friendly

Need we say more, check it out. Great sky view, sound, seats and the best prices on concessions. All run by the best volunteers.

I love what our community has done with The State! It is really amazingly beautiful inside and they show an awesome selection of throwback films on Friday nights around midnight. It is a great way to kick off a weekend... meet some friends downtown for dinner then beverages and close the evening with flicks like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or... More

We came here to see a movie in March of 2013. This is a charming venue. The volunteers helping staff the place were a grin. The prices can't be beat. We enjoyed our visit here and will come again the next time we are in town.

Look up after you have chosen your seat in the theater and you will view the night sky.(simulated of course) Instructions are given to silence your cell phones and enjoy the movie. People are very respectful of the quiet at movie-time

Love to go to movies here! It has been beautifully renovated AND HAS SPARKLY STARS on the ceiling! Comfy reclining seats, and special spots for wheelchairs! Great concession stand goodies! Come see for yourself!

Comfortable seating in a family friendly and inviting atmosphere. Movie selection is usually more intelligent than mainstream theatres elsewhere.

The State is the coolest theatre I've ever been in. My wife and I sat in the balcony, which I would highly recommend. Not too many places have balconies anymore - it was super cool. The ceiling of the theatre has LED lights all over the place to look like stars. Also very cool. This place is like stepping back... More

This theater has won many awards for it's design and overall ambiance. It recreates the best of the great theaters of the past. Thank you to Michael Moore, the Traverse City Rotary and the citizens of TC for creating this beautiful venue.
