We often go to the State. It is central to the local Film Festival and is a refurbished original theater on an original small town "Main Street" (literally it is Front Street phew ever) But it's really special when they offer quarter movies for kids on Saturdays and during school holidays like spring break. It doesn't seem like your part... More

This is a treasure in Traverse City. What a beautifully grand way to experience a movie. Reasonable tickets, reasonable popcorn, a non profit , with volunteer help that gives back to our city. It's not owned by a for profit corporation - this is for our community. Thank you we love you - State Theatre

Local celebrity influence and updated small town theater makes this a must go cinema in Traverse City, MI. I have seen two free international animation series that were excellent. Old classics are a quarter. Selma ran free for students. No one is forgotten. The best of commercial runs plus Oscar contenders and excellent but barely known films are carefully selected... More

Very roomy seats and aisles. Inexpensive drinks and soda. Always have great movies for adults and special shows for children.

My boyfriend and I went to the theatre on a Thursday evening. It wasn't too packed and the prices were great. Even better, the obedience of the place. It was adorably decorated, beautiful inside the theatre. We couldn't have been happier with our experience and cannot wait to return!

Visiting the State is always a highlight to my time in Traverse City. The old time feel is second to none; never dingy or unkempt. Low prices on concessions make getting 'the whole' experience a reality. Great spot for great fun!

New Years Eve we decided on a light dinner and a movie. We had not been to the State for a while so I purchased tickets on line and we walked down to it after dinner. The restoration is beautiful. The volunteers are friendly and helpful. The sound system made the movie. The price makes me never want to try... More

My Wife and I saw "Birdman" and were VERY impressed by the theatre itself, the amazing volunteers who staff it, the concessions, and the experience as a whole. Michael Moore should get some sort of award for making this such a perfect place to see movies and re-visit a historical location.

Large screen, balcony seating, stars of the Northern sky on ceiling, extra large seats, very pleasant volunteers that make going to a movie there extremely pleasant. A real gem thanks to the innovational thinking on the part of Michael Moore.
