Super nice classy but modern movie theater!

Love the building, chairs, sound and screen! Don't forget the ceiling that has the night sky as seen in August in Northern Michigan.

Film maker Michael Moore (a local) spearheaded a drive to restore and re-open this theater. Seats are comfy, interior ornate and spotless. All of the workers are local volunteers. This place sparked the now renown Traverse City Film Festival. The other night we attended the world premier of Moore's latest film, Where To Invade Next. Well worth seeing.

The State Theatre offers everything from first run films to indie delights to classic treasures. There are a couple fun offering almost every day, and some surprisingly inexpensive options. My friend and I go the the 25 cent classic movie nearly every Wednesday. Did mention the ambiance is really cool and the concession treats are locally sourced and inexpensive.

Fabulous! Remodeled to historical decor but with comfy seating. Great seating from almost every location. Reasonable prices for concessions.

Old Time Movie Theatre Charm. Movies change often, and can be a documentary, to a current day movie, Saturday Morning cartoons or a family friendly flick. Refreshment stand has reasonable prices. Sound system is excellent. Parking deck is nearby, just a short walk away. Film Festival the end of July - has lots of choices to see and check out.... More

We strolled along Front Street while on a recent stop in Traverse City. Loved seeing the old marquee at the State Theatre. Would have loved to have seen a movie there, but the timing didn't work out.

This is the best venue for watching a movie in Traverse City. It's sister theater, the Bijou is very good also. The seats are comfortable and the ceiling is patterned with stars including some familiar constellations. It's a throwback to theaters from the past where creature comforts weren't taken for granted - and the decor reflects it. Watching a movie... More

The theater was remodeled a number of years ago to its original state. We get a number of documentaries and unusual films at this theater. The prices are also reasonable. It is unique because we have many volunteers to help run the theatre.
