Description: Grand Traverse Distillery is Michigan’s oldest craft distillery and we are...
Grand Traverse Distillery is Michigan’s oldest craft distillery and we are family owned. We use 100% locally grown corn, wheat and rye to distill our award winning spirits which include the True North Vodkas [Rye, Wheat, Cherry, Chocolate & soon Chipotle], Gin, Rum and our Whiskies [Ole George 100% Rye, Bourbon, as well as many small batch specialty ones]. We offer 100 Proof Michigan White Dog Whiskey that is sold with mini barrels so a customer can come in make a purchase and age the whiskey at home in their own barrel. We have 5 Tasting Rooms located throughout the state in Traverse City, Frankenmuth, Leland and Grand Rapids so you can stop by and have the Grand Traverse Distillery experience and enjoy tastings and cocktails. We also have joint Tasting Rooms with Black Star Farms Winery where you will find both of our products and be able to taste and have a cocktail. Our Main Distillery Tasting Room is open Monday through Saturday 11-a.m. to 5:30-p.m. We offer tours 6 days a week in season and weekends out of season at 12, 2 and 4 pm. Cheers, Kent Rabish!

I stopped in the downtown tasting room. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable - helped me decide which of the liquors I wanted to taste from a fairly broad list. I tried the cherry vodka, cherry whiskey, and bourbon. All quite good - I especially liked the cherry vodka. The atmosphere is clean and minimalist. Perfect for the attraction.

Hello Laura Thanks for our feedback on our tasting room downtown in Traverse City. We just moved in late last summer and still have some ideas on how to improve the space. We are going to add a 2nd tasting bar in the front of the space very soon. Glad to hear about the cherry vodka, I enjoy it in... More

I stopped in here while touring around the area. The owner, a super nice guy, came over and introduced himself, told me about the business and answered my questions. He asked if I had sampled any of their spirits, and when I told him I had not, explained how the process works, walked me over and introduced me to one... More

Glad you enjoyed your stop at GTD's tasting room! We try to make it a fun place to visit and give a little background on what we do and how we take local grains through the process to make our spirits. Please come back again and thanks for taking time to review your visit! Cheers Kent More

Visited the distillery. It was kind of late in the day, but one of the guys took the time to show us around (we missed the regular tour). We paid the $5 for the tasting glass, and you get to try 3 different kinds of their product. They were very good at explaining the processes and different flavors/aspects of each... More

Hello Joseph Thanks for coming in a sampling our spirits! Our sampling totals one ounce of products split up between several small pours. It does not take much to determine if the flavor profile hits the mark for a customer. Please come back again and try the other spirits you missed on this visit! Cheers Kent PS we should have... We visited the Distillery itself (not tasting room downtown) and it was a nice experience. There is a tasting fee but you certainly get your money's worth. We did not take the tour as we were a bit limited on time and we'd all seen distilleries before. The two gentlemen serving were well versed about their product and more than... More

I visited the place today, they have really good quality spirits, and the shots were enough to taste and experience different types of liquors. It is a "must visit" at Traverse City

This was our favorite stop! We paid $10 for a tour of the distillery and 5 or so tastings. The guy doing the tour was very informative. He helped with the tastings as well, going above and beyond with personal service. Everyone was so friendly. It is a bit expensive to purchase spirits because it is a high end distillery,... More

Stopped into the tasting room in downtown Traverse City. Nice shop and workers were great. Whiskey was nice, but expensive. Will be interesting to see what the future hold.

Hi Mike Thanks for visiting our Front Street location and trying our whiskey. At GTD we produce from locally grown grain all of our whiskey. Many "distilleries" purchase whiskey from one of the large companies then bottle and but a label on their products. This is much less expensive but craft is about going from farm to bottle and does... More

I wasn't sure if we walked into a distillery or a high-end clothing retailer. It is nice inside and the bartender made us feel right at home. Are we the only ones who sample whiskey at 10 am? Okay, it was 11am, after the spring time-change. But still, we had the place to ourselves. Brought back some Cherry Whiskey, fun... More

Hello Thanks for taking time to post and visiting our tasting room in downtown Traverse City. The tasting room is larger than what we needed but the location was great. Stopped by this afternoon hoping for a tour and a tasting. We were disappointed on both counts. Very small facility and the young lady there couldn't even welcome us. We wondered around for 5 minutes or so and left disappointed. I have tried their bourbon before, and liked it, but this sadly wasn't worth the stop.
