The Soo Locks are fascinating. The waterfront park offers a two floor viewing tower where you can stand and watch the ships go through the locks, but for the best experience I recommend taking a locks boat cruise. The price is reasonable, and you get up close and personal with the locks. While the pack ice on the far side... More

Living near the Welland Canal sort of ruins this experience; you see the Locks in passing really when coming through Michigan. They are pretty grand to see, but apart from seeing them...its cool, but not something unless you are an engineer or some sort of technological enthusiast or something along those lines. Kids totally get a kick out of the... More

The whole point of seeing the locks is to watch at least one ship go through, so try to time it properly. You can hang around in town until you see a ship coming and then run across the street. The viewing platform is nice. The water rises and falls pretty slowly but it is still a unique experience and... More

The Corps of Engineers have set up a nice viewing platform with two levels to view ore carriers transversing the locks and rising or lowering 27 feet.

This is a very interesting way to pass a few hours if you're ever in the Soo. It is free and definitely something to show little kids. They would love it.

I liked everything. The boat ride and just going to the locks and seeing the ships come in is great.

I loved this visitor center. You can watch the ships come into the locks and leave at a different level. They have a nice observation area inside and out. They have information on the ships and always friendly with info or answering questions.

We recently took a dinner cruise. We have taken dinner cruises around the country. The food is generally so-so to forgettable. Not on the Soo Locks cruise. The food is very good. The information provide by the staff regarding the US & Canadian shorelines, plus the history and operation of the locks was top notch. I enjoyed a one on... More
