This is really a neat place to visit and watch the ships go through the Locks. We went up on the viewing platform to watch the 1.000 foot ships and small boats. Until I got here I had never seen or understood how a lock works. It was really interesting. We then went into the visitor's center for some great... More

We have enjoyed visiting the Locks as long as I can remember. It is a lot of fun watching these huge ships from just several yards away as they are raised and lowered from Lake Michigan level to Lake Huron level. This time was the best yet as there were ships there all afternoon and evening. You can call for... More

The obesrvation deck is a great place to watch the ships pass through the locks. It is two stories high and easily accesable offering a covered high place to view the overall operations. Inside the building the staff is very helpful and informative. Ship scheduled times for the locks for that day are posted. Wonderful displays.

We were fortunate to see two freighters go through the locks and observe other ships waiting. The staff was very helpful and interesting. They seemed to be excited about their jobs. I would recommend this to almost anyone, but it didn't have the "amusement park excitement" for little kids.

A real nice observation deck with easy access parking on the street and a short walk. I used to live in the Panama Canal Zone so this was pretty cool seeing another locking system. Great history here of the ships hauling ore and lumber between the Great Lakes.

The center caters to people who find ships--huge ones--entering the Locks fascinating. They had a time schedule for ships coming through. Very user friendly.

All the staff was friendly and helpful! The kids loved seeing the boats coming in and going into the building to see the pictures and watch the movie! I recommend this to any all familys traveling through the Soo or if you live nearby and never been you really should go check it out!

After getting settled into our hotel across the street, we wandered over to the Soo Locks to take a look. There is quite a nice park surrounding the Locks and an excellent visitors center. Learned quite a bit about how the locks work and the history there. At first, there were no ships in the locks, so it wasn't much... More
