My husband and I hiked the path to the beach on a November afternoon. We encountered a few other hikers. The path through the forest protected us from the wind which was nice because once we hit the beach it got much colder. It was absolutely beautiful. Most of the leaves were on the ground, the path was well marked... More

Very lovely beach with few amenities. The trek there and back from the parking lot is not for the faint of heart.

Easy to access and great trails for hiking. Having Lake Michigan ahead of you isn't too shabby either. The trees turning in the fall where a nice plus also.

Went near sunset. Beautiful views. Windy, so bundle up in autumn. Treed and hilly. Paths can be dark at night.

We visited mid week. There was no charge for park access or entry. It's a beautiful, gentle hike- esp. In the Fall. We wound our way to the beach and enjoyed the views of Lake Michigan.

Walked the North Trail. 2.5 miles. Trail was well marked. Ends a top dune overlooking Lake Michigan. Ample parking. Visited in October so there was no one manning booth at entrance. Sign said if you don't have a recreation pass, you are to pay fees and leave in envelope based on honor system.

We were there in the fall. You have to purchase a permit to go into the state park. Since we live outside of Michigan, we paid $9 for a one day pass. We hiked some trails, visited Oxbow and climbed the stairs to Mt baldy.

My husband organizes a group of our family and friends each fall for a hike. Saugatuck Dunes was the place this year, and 20 of us enjoyed an afternoon hike over the trail that took us through woods and over sand dunes. The children easily scampered up and down dunes terrain that was challenging for us adults. Hikers may choose... More

Although it was a 15 minute hike to the lake shore, the trails are in great shape and the wooded setting is beautiful. Unfortunately, we weren't prepared for the black flies on the beach, and their biting is painful which meant we didn't stay on the beach very long.

Very nice trails. Both the North Trail and Livingston Trail provide a nice view of the lake. The North Trail predominantly features Austrian Pines, which are beautiful trees despite being invasive.
