When planning my trip to southwestern Michigan I made it a point to be able to spend at least one day at Saugatuck Dunes State Park. I made a mistake. I should have planned for two or three days. The park is simply uncompromisingly beautiful with one awe inspiring scene after another of beach, water and sun as the day... More

We wanted to visit 3 beaches in the area, so we had gone to Oval Beach (gorgeous---easy to get into), Pier Cove Beach (gorgeous, small 10 car lot) and finally, Saugatuck Dunes State Park. Chamber of Commerce says 'easy ten minute walk'. IF you're on the right trail! My fault! Could only see one sign when we got to the... More

Saugatuck Dunes State Park features pristine dune forest in a quiet setting. Only one drawback: it is not handicap accessible. Be prepared for a hike to the beach area.

Awesome and challenging hike to,Lake Michigan. It easy challenging but well worth it. Make sure to take water and a snack along. We took our time and it took us 2.5 hours to do the South trail

This is a beautiful lake beach with wonderful views and sights. The water is cool all the time, but feels great on a hot day. There are ample options as to things to do other than to swim. As much as we love the place, the horse flys are well named--they are huge and pack a punch when (and they... More

Visited last weekend, this was my favorite beach we went to. It wasn't crowded due to the hike to get there. The hike was rather enjoyable as well. The flys were pretty bad, but that was the same at Oval Beach. We will be back again. You do need the Rec Passport, you can buy it at the gate if... More

This is such a favorite place of ours. We love the walk through the woods to the beach and seeing all the families walking along with their wagons loaded with chairs and picnic items. Everyone seems relaxed and happy. Down on the beach there is more than enough room to spread out and enjoy the sand and water. I love... More

This beach is nice and secluded. It works well on days Oval Beach is overwhelmed. But, it is a long walk for a small family to the beach. There is also no running water in the bathroom facilities, so just be aware.

My Chicago friends Harold and Alan and I have come to Saugatuck since 2001. Every year when I visit them in Chicago in the Fall we spend the weekend the Douglass Halloween parade takes place. This year it's Saturday October 25th. Saugatuck is a very nice little township that boasts many eateries/restaurants and galleries. The most famous breakfast restaurant is"... More

We enjoyed a quite and stunningly beautiful walk in this wooded setting where trails lead to the beach. We followed the trails to a spot high on the dues where we sighted a Bald Eagle flying by.
