Great carousel with some unusual animals--this year they installed a praying mantis (they change some of the animals from time to time). Also enjoy the miniature display of Silver Beach Amusement Park with working model train and working model amusement rides. As much fun for us (older) adults as for the youngsters

MAKE A MEMORY ALL YEAR ROUND!The horses, the tigers, the hippocampus, the panda, the clown fish – in all, 48 unique carousel figures and two chariots – are whirling with excitement to see you. Come pick your favorite and ride beneath 1000 twinkling lights as the band organ’s music happily soars and dips with the gears. Each figure is beautifully hand-carved and hand-painted by the artisans at The Carousel Works. Around the top of the carousel you can learn about our local history – told as no one else in the world has told it on a carousel – using historic photographs. As you gaze at those 18 rounding boards, you’ll become part of our story, too.You’ll find all the magic and wonder of the Silver Beach Carousel below the bluff in St. Joseph, just yards from Lake Michigan’s Silver Beach, named one of the top 10 family beaches by Parents magazine. Open all four seasons, you can ride a different carousel figure or chariot every week and fill the year with a new memory each time. Our sea serpent chariot is wheelchair accessible so everyone can ride! Tokens are available for cash or credit card at the admissions desk or for cash from our token machine. This is a great place to bring kids for some fun. Lots of fun things to do, games to play like, checkers,chess and bean bag toss. You can even sit in rocking chairs to enjoy the carousel.

The carousel had replica horses from the original Silver Beach Carousel. They also have carousel animals designed for local schools, universities, policemen, firemen, etc. The WMU horse was a bucking bronco. The police horse had a German Shepard on it. The Silver Beach Carousel was a local project fully paid fopr by the citizens of the area. It replaces a very old carousel that was located in an amusement park on the lake shore that was removed in the mid-1970's. Riding the carousel is great fun for kids of all ages, including seniors who enjoy a little nostalgia.

Worth a stop if you're in the area. The kids rode the carousel a couple times and loved it. Right by the lake in a very nice area.

It's only $2/ride, or 3 rides for $5. I'm going there the day of my wedding for pictures! So excited! Took my 2-year-old nephew there this weekend-- he loved it! Especially the bumper cars, haha! But the carousel too! The tiger was his favorite. I like that there was a huge variety of animals on the carousel, not just horses....

Boy did this bring back memories! The refurbished carousel is beautiful, and the placement near the beach is great. Parking is a bit hard to find, but worth the walk if you have to...
