Spring fed lake so it is clear and shallow. Need to walk 1/4 mile to get to the deeper water. Volleyball net available, play areas for children, bathroom

This is our fourth year going to Higgins Lake. We rent a cottage on the North side. We swam at the North and South State Park beach and seemed okay. My four year old granddaughter begged to go off the dock where we were staying. I had heard swimmers itch, due to the ducks. Had to go in for her,... More

again a good beach for a hot summer day - only no park store, so don't forget anything. I think its a little less busy at this beach. It's usually my first choice if I go solo to the beach.

We went swimming in Higgins Lake the past two days. Today we got swimmers itch pretty bad. We even showered off right away after swimming. We did not see any warning signs at all. Wow, this is awful.

Great place. The park had some nice places to hike and some fitness exercises to stop and do. Lots of fun and mostly shadded in the trails. As for swimmers itch, we were told to enter the water off a dock and wear sunscreen heavy on our legs. This would avoid most of it. When you get out, shower to... More

I normally go up to Higgins lake every year, 4-5 times a year, to a friends cottage. Last year my whole family went up to Higgins not knowing that the beautiful lake has been infected with a parasite that causes 'swimmers itch'. It sucks when your 1 year old daughter breaks out with a red rash, not to mention my... More

My family went to the beach for the day on 6/23/13 This was the 2nd year in a row that we ALL got swimmers itch! We love the area but have decided it's not worth coming back again.

North Shore Higgins Lake State Park is the most relaxing place to camp in Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The beach is a short walk away from the campground, and is sandy, fairly pristine, and a great place to take your kids for a swim. The "old section" of the campground is wonderful for tents, and has plenty of old-growth trees for... More

Nice quiet boat launch during the week. A little busy on the weekends. They have extra parking if you need it. The beach is clean, no lifeguards on duty. There are clean flushing bathrooms onsite too which is a bonus.
