The location is well marked and there are fairly nice restrooms to use. A pleasant surprise is that the hike is half Boardwalk, a ton of work went into making that happen. The telescope usage is free, also neat. The hike is only a half mile long and the view is quite good. It'd be neat to go here on... More

We hiked about 8 miles on several trails before reaching Summit Peak Trail from South Mirror Lake Trail. From SML Trail, the Summit Peak trail rises swiftly through the forest. At the peak itself, there's a lookout tower offering 360 degree views. There's also a lower viewing platform between the peak and the parking area. The parking area has composting... More

The view is nice, but I liked the view from the main overlook better. To view the summit you drive around the south boundary trail to the summit overlook. The trail rises about 300 feet in .5 miles so it's kind of steep. Then there are lots of stairs. We did it just to say we did!

It was a clear day and the hike up to the top of the tower was worth it as we could see a ship out in the lake. Met a great couple from Port Huron, MI and compared ports as we are from Duluth, MN. Wish we didn't following this with a hike down to Mirror Lake as that was... More

Decided not to go all the way to Lake in the Clouds, but were glad we chose Summit Peak. There is a very nice hike going to the peak, not too long, not too short. However, be ready to climb some stairs. Not really accessible for handicap viewing. The wooded hike was gorgeous.

I actually enjoyed this more than Lake of the Clouds. But we also had better sun light that day and were able to see more of the fall foliage. Both are wonderful though.

Once it was the highest point... they found a couple of other peaks just a bit higher. The lookout tower is terrific with 360 views. I hiked the loop, about 5 miles through forests of color. Don't miss it!

A lot of uphill walking and stairs, but so worth it at the top, especially during peak color time in the fall.

This was a half mile, sometimes steep climb to the Summit. It's a good thing there are benches to rest on occasionally, but a nice view of the Porkies over the tree tops! Bring your binoculars with.
