This very modest museum is housed in a former jail that held -- and tortured -- political prisoners. Its a very odd juxtaposition: there are line drawings painted on the walls depicting the sometimes mundane, sometimes terrifying life of the prisoners, but the exhibitions are all about Nicaraguan fables and legends (most of them of the "great-way-to-scare-your-children-into-submission" variety: spirits and... We learned so much about Nicaragua at this museum. It's housed in an old prison that was the site of terrible abuses by previous governments. In addition to presenting Nicaragua's folk stories, the story of past abuses are told so as not to be forgotten. That is is now a folklore museum for the people makes this site very moving.... More

The best part of this museum is the masaics as you enter. There are several rooms of this old jail showing legends and ways people were tortured. More

Very friendly staff but displays are cheezy and very few with virtaully no descriptions. They will let you climb the ramparts to get a view of the city. More

I had read about this location but was disappointed in the overall experience. The murals depicting torture of the people were informative. More

The guide spoke good English and explained the Nicaraguan traditions well. Helps to explain the tall Woman and big headed dwarf (smart Nicaraguan man) that we saw performed by street kids in Granada and Leon. More

Fun to hear about the legends and traditions in Nicaragua, so if you have the interest to know why people walk around in the evenings with dolls costumes and plays music, this is the place to go! You'll get many aha, experiences! More

This "museum" is interesting. the person who runs it has it filled wth all these really weird puppets and paper dolls. Not super educational, though the paper guides give some good information. They are available in both Spanish and English. It is really just a weird plac, not much of a museum. It was however and old jail where torture... More

The museum is only a short walk from the main park. It is not very expensive to get in, but you are on your own unless you are on a tour. It is set in an old prison and the place is sort of a prison museum and a chance to see life size figures depicting the local myths and... More
