Must see if you visit this city, also dont forget to visit Leon Viejo, and La Catedral. I also visit a farmer market (mercado) and I exchange some dollars to cordova there...its normal to do this type of transaction with locals..tips: be very careful with locals who will approach you asking for you to change them a big $500.00 cordova... If you have a half day free, it is worth the trip.Because it is a WHS, it has funding to maintain it. The grounds are clean and the history is displayed. A guide is able to add more to the trip but is unnecessary . The iguanas seem to be taking over, and are digging holes in exposed foundation walls... More

If you like visiting ruins this one is well kept in a tranquil setting. The entrance fee is about a dollar per person. There is a guide who speaks spanish and english. Be aware that in the summer it is very hot and humid here. For a great photo walk up to the vista point which overlooks the volcano. More

The ruins of Leon Viejo are Nicaragua's only UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although the guide was awesome and the ruins were alright, the effort to get there wasn't all that. Overall, the site is worth a visit, but it might be closer to the "underwhelming" side than to the "amazing" side. Nonetheless a nice piece of history. More
