Absolutely stunning. Make sure you climb the stairs to the roof and wander around so you get get great views across the city. We visited during Easter when the cathederal was beautifully decorated with flowers and purple fabrics. Afterwards, cross to the bar on the corner of the square, sit outside, grab a beer, and watch the locals go about... More

It is difficult to find where to buy the tickets to go on the roof, apparently there is normally a sign, but there definitely wasn't on our visit. However we eventually found a small door the far side of the cathedral with a couple of guards the otherside of the gate. You then come back inside and give the ticket... More

Interesting but not awesome inside, it is more majestic from the outside. Make sure you get a tour of the rooftop to see the views of Leon. More

This enormous and beautiful cathedral is more on par with the airy and luminous feeling of Reinassance Italian ones rather than the dark baroque typical of Spanish colonial period. Its religious art collection is impressive. The tour of the roof, unforgettable. It would be a sin to come to Nicaragua and miss out on this jewel. More
