So being a snowboarder for 25 years and having read about boarding down the Cerro Negro volcano in Nicaragua, i just had to do it! I travelled to Leon with this specific purpose and headed for Bigfoot Hostel, the main tour operators, only to be shot down with a pack of lies. "Standing up is impossible, the slope is 80... More

Volcano boarding, at least for me, was not as exciting as it sounds. You climb up the volcano for one hour with your protective suit and the board and then you slide down. They clocked me at 30-something KPH but it felt like I was crawling. I saw other people stop on the slope down. They tell stories of people... More

When staying in Léon you shouldn't miss to go Volcano Boarding at Cerro Negro. Go to the Big Foot Hostel, enjoy a mojito for 35 Cordobas and watch the video clip to get to know what you can expect. Wear good shoes, because you have to hike up for about 45 minutes. Board, overall and goggles you will get from... More

Beautiful place and view from the top. The hike was easer then we expected, even if we had to carry our sled. But the main reason why you should go there is to try volcano boarding, this is a one life experience! tip: sled is faster and funnier than sandboard!!! More

If you plan to go volcano boarding at Cerro Negro, you better be in good shape. the hike to the top of the volcano is strenuous to say the least. My husband and I are in pretty fit, yet the hike 3 km vertical hike carrying our "sled" pushed us almost to the limit. keep in mind that you'll be... More

Volcano Boarding on Cerro Negro is an unreal experience that you will never forget!! We went with Bigfoot Hostel, who offer a pretty good deal. $23 for transportation, a quick tour of the crater with some fun facts, a lesson of boarding, and then the boarding itself. When you finish, you get a beer and a cookie, and 2 mojitos... More
