We really enjoyed our visit to the area and the Grand Island was magnificent! Beautiful place to walk around and enjoy the views of the Lake. It is soooo clear and clean it is wonderful experience. Lovely lighthouse on the beach. Would enjoy returning to visit again.

I paid for a mountain bike rental but when we got on the island there were no bikes that fit me - a 5'4" woman. Not only that, there was no one available to help. We arrived to find a rack of bikes unattended. Eventually a young boy rode up and asked if we needed help. He said his dad... More

Of course it depends on what you want. There were people who rode their bikes and seemed to be having a good time, but my wife and I were tormented by mosquitoes and the three hour bus tour really was not worth the time. It was pretty uncomfortable.

We had a perfect cloudless sky the day we were there, add in great views of water and cliffs it was the highlight of our trip to the UP. Some earlier review mentioned the poor quality of the rental bikes but that was last year a new company has taken over and everything is brand spanking new! Take your bike... More

We spent a day on Grand Island biking and taking in the sights. It's short ferry ride from Munising. Do get up early if you want to rent a bike because there is a limited supply. We couldn't get mountain bikes and had to settle for beach combers. Some of the trails were too rugged to us to travel without... More

We took the ferry over for a bike ride in mid July..the bike trails are wide and clearly marked. The island is over 20 miles around so we came up a little short on our ride. Dense forest and cliffs over looking crystal clear Lake Superior. The ferry price for one passenger is $15. And mountain bike is $5. Well... More

Just spent a day mountain biking the perimeter of the island. Wow what beauty, and views, especially along the west side. Lots of hidden treasures, too, like the Murray House, Duck Lake, a centuries' old cemetery and Trout Bay beach. Make sure you bring plenty of fluids and bug spray is a must!! The black flies were horrible on the... More

My husband and I took our daughter (13) and son (9) backpacking on Grand Island in July 2014. We tried to make reservations ahead of time, but couldn't reach anyone. So we went to the dock a couple days before and were able to reserve the ferry and a bus ride for Monday morning. The ferry was $15 apiece and... More

I kayaked around Grand Island. I think this was the best way to see things up close. We pulled the kayak up on a beach and ate lunch with a beautiful view. The water is so clean and in many places clear. The rocks formations are fascinating. It was just beautiful, peaceful, and quiet.
