Just spent a day mountain biking the perimeter of the island. Wow what beauty, and views, especially along the west side. Lots of hidden treasures, too, like the Murray House, Duck Lake, a centuries' old cemetery and Trout Bay beach. Make sure you bring plenty of fluids and bug spray is a must!! The black flies were horrible on the... More

My husband and I took our daughter (13) and son (9) backpacking on Grand Island in July 2014. We tried to make reservations ahead of time, but couldn't reach anyone. So we went to the dock a couple days before and were able to reserve the ferry and a bus ride for Monday morning. The ferry was $15 apiece and... More

I kayaked around Grand Island. I think this was the best way to see things up close. We pulled the kayak up on a beach and ate lunch with a beautiful view. The water is so clean and in many places clear. The rocks formations are fascinating. It was just beautiful, peaceful, and quiet.

Mountain Biking the Grand Island is a must-do activity while you are in Munising. The ferry over to Grand Island takes just a few minutes - I think the cost is pretty reasonable as well (I think $15 round trip). Breathtaking views of the water, cliffs, the beach, and other scenery. It takes about 4 hours or so to ride... More

I enjoyed the bus tour of the island. The tour guide was very knowledgable. We saw some shorelines and were able to go in a couple of the homes on the island.

We've explored Munising some during the summer months, but WOW! The winter! The ice caves on Grand Island are possibly some of the more dramatic and spectacular sights that I have seen- If you have an opportunity to travel to Munising during the winter months, you won't want to miss seeing this!. Grand Island is about a half of a... More

Like the previous post, we heard that you could walk across Munising Bay. We chose to snowshoe because it had snowed the night before. The ice formations in the bright sun were worth the trek across the ice. The cold winter gave us a chance to see something amazing. We found it more impressive than the Eben Ice Caves. If... More

We were going to go to the Eben Ice Caves but we were told there were ice formations right in town. Went down the road and parked at the ranger station and walked 1 mile across the frozen Munising Bay to Grand Island to see the ice caves along the shoreline. Picture perfect colorations of blue and white! Would do... More

If you want to see the shoreline of Grand Island the Riptide is a great way to go. It's fun, fast & very scenic. You get to see the cliffs up close and the captain/owner is a great guy.
