Our trip to Grand Island was a definite favorite!! We took the pontoon ride over to the island (he can take 6 people at a time and only takes about 5 minutes) We went in early Oct. on a cloudy and cool day. The pontoon ran 3 times a day in Oct 9am, 12 noon, and 3:30pm. To get around... More

We only were able to have a short visit to Grand Island during our trip but quickly realized that it was a place that we want to return to. Much care is taken so that the natural beauty is preserved on this beautiful island and we can't wait to explore it more fully!

We explored Grand Island by both bike and kayak. Way more to see and less crowded than Pictured Rocks. Bike tour is more strenuous than you might expect. Lots of up and downs. The real gem is exploration from the water. Left Sand Point and paddled past two sunken ships. Went north along the eastern edge. Lots of really neat... More

If you're looking for a less populated place to visit in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, visit Grand Island! You can get there by ferry just outside Munising. The ferry location also rents mountain/cruiser/hybrid bikes you can use while on the island. The island offers backcountry camping, cabins, beaches, wildlife viewing, mountain biking trails, a 20-miles loop around the island exterior,... More

Our visit to Grand Island was the highlight of our trip to the UP. Gorgeous secluded beaches, scenic views and fresh air is what you have to look forward to. We rode our mountain bikes around the island and highly recommend this for visitors. It's not an easy ride, nor is it too technical. Enjoy

Prepare yourself for simple, primitive nature experiences. A young bear (mother was not far) became very friendly and looking for food. Beware and use good judgement. Bikes are available with cleared trails.

I paid for a mountain bike rental but when we got on the island there were no bikes that fit me - a 5'4" woman. Not only that, there was no one available to help. We arrived to find a rack of bikes unattended. Eventually a young boy rode up and asked if we needed help. He said his dad... More

Of course it depends on what you want. There were people who rode their bikes and seemed to be having a good time, but my wife and I were tormented by mosquitoes and the three hour bus tour really was not worth the time. It was pretty uncomfortable.

We had a perfect cloudless sky the day we were there, add in great views of water and cliffs it was the highlight of our trip to the UP. Some earlier review mentioned the poor quality of the rental bikes but that was last year a new company has taken over and everything is brand spanking new! Take your bike... More
