Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has some of the best natural sights. We took the boat cruise out of Munising. It is well worth the money. The cruise lasts about 3 hours. Be sure and book the tour that takes you to see Spray Falls. (no extra charge) It is the best way to see the limestone cliffs. The boats are... more

When my mother read me Longfellow's poem "By the shores of Gitchee Gumee, by the Shining Big-Sea-Water", I never realized that he was talking about a real place where the Ojibwa Indians lived--and still live. This park, along the shore of Lake Superior, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, has beautiful forests, hikes from challenging to easy through thick woods,... more

We spent 4 days in the U.P., hiking the Porcupine Mountains, walking and climbing waterfalls in Pictured Rocks Nat'l Lakeshore, touring lighthouses and climbing towers. One of the most memorable experiences was kayaking in Lake Superior with Uncle Ducky's kayaking guide (left from Munising, MI). What an amazing day this was -- I would recommend it to anyone interested in... more

We visited during an unusually cool spring but were still able to enjoy some great hiking. We drove from Munising and started at Sable Falls. We then drove to the Log Slide Overlook to check our GREAT views of the Dunes and a distant Au Sable Light station. We moved on the the Hurricane River Campsite and chose to hike... more

Pictured Rocks National Park is well worth a visit but make sure you do your research on the park before visiting. Some of the must see sites in the park (Miners Castle, Pictured Rocks boat tour, Chapel Falls) are closer to Munising and some of the sites are closer to Grand Marais (Au Sable Lighthouse, Grand Sable Dunes and Grand... more

The amazing colors of the cliffs along the central south shore of Lake Superior are exceptionally vivid on the "sunset cruise" boat tour out of Munising. Crew was wonderful and the pilot/narrator was funny and illuminating. The warning about needing a sweatshirt/windbreaker, however, needs to be heeded--even during the peak of summer. Temps and winds on the lake as the... more

Pictured Rocks is sublime. It's so gorgeous, and it's HUGE! 20-some miles of 300 foot sandstone cliffs right on the edge of the lovely Lake Superior, miles of dunes, beaches, hidden waterfalls everywhere...This is one of my favorite places in the entire state of Michigan, one of my favorite places in the Midwest, period! It's pretty secluded up there. The... more

We have been to the Pictured Rocks before and done the boat ride which is great. But this trip was just past season and we still enjoyed all the beautiful hike to the gorgeous waterfalls around the area. Worth a visit when the leaves are changing. more
