If you manage to get into libya.... then cross country t less miles of lawless Saharan wasteland you will see this oasis paradise. As you walk the empty abandoned city you will swear the ghosts of the past are guiding you (it's spooky ok!). What's that you hear??? Well its sure not a tourist!!, you will have the whole city... The city of Ghadames is diverse as you can step back into the "old" city, which is no longer inhabited, or walk through the streets of the "new" city. There is much history to be gleaned in Ghadames! You can explore the lower passageways of the old city with its many twists and turns, or climb to the rooftop "streets"... More

A visit to Ghadames promises to be a highlight for anyone travelling in this region. It is thought to be one of the three ancient cities - Damascus, Jericho and Ghadames - and there's history at every turn in this charming place. No other city has the architecture that marks the Old City, now protected as a UNESCO site, with... More

Arrived late one evening after a difficult journey. the welcome we received was fit for a king! Our privacy is well respected and all the staff are polite and discrete. Security seems very good as well.

I just got back from a visit to the old city of Ghadames and I think that the place is regaining its charm, beauty and sence of being unique

We took a three day / two night trip from Tripoli. It is 400 miles each way and so takes the best part of the day but the old city is fascinating. Estimated to be between 2000 and 4000 years old it is now possible to wander around the streets and also make your way up on to the rooftops... More

We visited Ghadames with Arkno Tours a Libyan Travel Company in January 2007. After a two week tour of Libya we have come back to Libya to live and work. Ghadames is only one of many highlights in Libya. The day we visited the old city with our guide Abdalla Almofeq was a warm winters day with a delightful blue... More
